Watch Wayne Simmonds get his second Gordie Howe hat trick of the week

Feb 23, 2013, 8:35 PM EDT

For the second time in three games, Wayne Simmonds collected a Gordie Howe hat trick – at least one goal, assist and fight – as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-3. (He didn’t pull anyone’s hair, though.)

Here’s video of the feat:

Simmonds, 24, has been red-hot lately. He has seven points (three goals, four assists) in his last four contests.

That includes his impressive output against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, when he recorded his first Gordie (that time two goals, an assist and fight) in Philly’s 6-5 victory. Here’s bonus video of that one:

Overall, Simmonds has gotten into four scuffles this season. When he’s not dropping the gloves, he’s been scoring, as he has 15 points in 17 games played.

Hes a good player happy to see it, the flyers need some players who arent babies, will make this rivalry more interesting.

‘babies’? ok. our players never cried to the refs about too many hats on the ice after a hat trick. what a chump move.

I have to give it to simmonds. I thought last year might have just been a fluke good year. He has really turned it on since he joined the flyers. I don’t personally like him but there is no denying his talent is there.

have to agree. his contract may turn out to be a steal. he can do it all.

Hahaha this is a great post :,)

Yeah I gotta say if you want to have a talk about how much the flyers cry take a VERY long look at your own team there pens.

I think that ties him with Gordie Howe for Gordie Howe hat tricks. I know he did not have many.

Mr Hockey had 2 in his career, both during the 1953-54 season against the Leafs. His assists were on goals by fellow Hall of Famers Red Kelly and Ted Lindsay. He fought Fernie Flaman and Teeder Kennedy.

Simmonds is one of my more tolerated Flyers. He’s got a bright future. And from what I’ve experienced he seems pretty well spoken. I could see him becoming a franchise player for them.

Pens and their fans = HOF crybabies

  8. jimw81 - Feb 23, 2013 at 10:23 PM

Simmonds is one of the few flyers who actually shows up at the beginning of game. I’m beginning to have second thoughts about Coutier. If he doesn’t improve on his skating, he’ll never be an elite player.

I guess Penguin fans don’t remember a Pens player grabbing Hartnells hair in the playoffs last year……..nor them having the biggest two crybabies in the league in Crosby and Malkin……I ain’t taking anything away from there talent as players……but they are notorious for crying. Simmer is a beast. ……never complains and just plays hard for 60 minutes. He took the puck to the face last year and came back the next period with a full mask on, stitches and all. He is the definition of a hockey player ……

the linesman caught it in the act. it’s the job upon of the officials to pick up on this stuff. It’s non starter.

Great memories and just another example of the penguins and their fans being whiners and psuedo tough guys who cant back anything up. Yeah we started out slow this year but we will be fine and as long as we play the penguins we come out a head.

@loinstigersandredwingsohmy, you are correct. Gordie Howe only had 2 in his entire career. Brendan Shanahan is the all time leader in this category with 17 and I find that kind of ironic that he is now the person in charge of handing out disciplinary fines and suspensions for the NHL.

I love this guy to death, I know Mike Richards is a good player, but that trade has turned out amazingly for the Flyers. He’s got a scoring touch, physical edge, character, and he’ll drop the gloves. I’d love to have this guy on my team. Not to mention you throw in Schenn with that trade, the Flyers are making out pretty good.
