Scott Hartnell accuses Evander Kane of pulling his hair

Feb 23, 2013, 6:00 PM EDT

The Philadelphia Flyers won 5-3 against the Winnipeg Jets in Scott Hartnell‘s return from a broken foot and the winger kept himself busy. Hartnell fired five shots on goal, had four penalty minutes and apparently got his hair pulled by Evander Kane.

On-ice microphones caught Hartnell saying, “He pulled my [expletive] hair.”

For some visual evidence, here’s a screenshot the Sporting News’ Sean Gentille caught via

Perhaps it’s a case of Deangelo Williams being tackled by his dreadlocks: if you don’t want to get your hair pulled, then you might want to cut it.

What fun would that be, though?

  1. sjsharks66 - Feb 23, 2013 at 6:11 PM

Cut your hair already. I would be on your side if you didnt cry about it after every altercation you get in.

Plus, you bit letang a few years back. So no one really cares about your hair being pulled.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Feb 23, 2013 at 6:18 PM

Change your name to pittpenguins87 already. Although I do agree that it obviously happens a lot bc of the length of his hair. But that doesn’t mean you should pull hair.

    • kingjoe1 - Feb 23, 2013 at 6:20 PM

Really -“cut your hair”? Please go turn on the Wheel and guess the Title of a movie starting Jack Lemmon.

    • ml3939 - Feb 23, 2013 at 6:54 PM

No one cares for your opinion. Just go hang out in the Clowe article while it remains on the front page. Otherwise you will have to wait 3 weeks for another Sharks story.

Given Kane’s comments in the recent past I am sure he will say Hartnell is only saying this because Kane is black.

    • isithockeyseasonyet - Feb 24, 2013 at 11:46 AM

Easily the best comment I’ve ever read on here

Kane was probably trying to keep Hartnell from biting him.

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
    A home for fleas
    A hive for bees
    A nest for birds
    There ain’t no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
    Of my…

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
    Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
    My hair

      what the actually @!%&!±!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. mclovinhockey - Feb 23, 2013 at 6:58 PM

People pull hair and bite all the time in this league.

But for the pens fans who are calling him a biter and a wimp for talking about it, letang not only complained about the bite that he had a glove on for, but wore a splint and a bandage after.
    Just saying.

  7. sjsharks66 - Feb 23, 2013 at 7:10 PM

Well yeah, a troll like hartnell. Can you imagine how sharp his teeth are. Probably bit through the glove and hit bone.

Thats how silly your comment sounded. Who cares if he gad a bandage on it, does not change the fact he was bit by the guy who always complains of his hair being pulled. 😉

  8. ironcity6pak - Feb 23, 2013 at 7:23 PM

What about hartnell punching a player in the back of the head. I watched this game and this guy is dirty goon.

    • isithockeyseasonyet - Feb 24, 2013 at 11:49 AM

You have Matt Cooke on your team, careful calling anyone else dirty(no I don’t think the karlson hit was intentional plus he’s a fruit cake european dman so I don’t really care)

  9. pensfan603 - Feb 23, 2013 at 7:39 PM

If your gonna complain about people pulling your hair then get it cut, god im not saying he should be pulling hartnells hair but if your hartnell you shouldnt be complaining, you could cut it if you really wanted to and you dont so stop complaining, if the league thinks there is a problem with what he is donig they will suspend him, otherwise just shut up.

  10. bubblehead22 - Feb 23, 2013 at 7:44 PM

Hartnell is a overrated douche, like the rest of his team. Who cares what he says besides McGuire and Milbury?

  11. hocsocmom715 - Feb 23, 2013 at 7:47 PM

Hey Hartnell, need a tissue? Crybaby

  12. mclovinhockey - Feb 23, 2013 at 7:55 PM

Yeah teeth are sharp, hockey gloves are created to withstand a skate stomp.

    Skate> teeth

It takes a lot to bite through skin without anything protecting it.

Plus on the video there is nothing to even hint a bite. I think letang hurt his finger from the fall. Seems more likely because you would wear a splint from jamming your finger, not from it being bitten

  13. steelers88 - Feb 23, 2013 at 8:07 PM

Me thinks sjsharks66 is actually a Penguins fan.

I think it just depends on the situation. If Kane (or whomever) intentionally goes to try and pull Hartnell’s hair, then Kane (or whomever) is in the wrong. You shouldn’t pull hair just like you shouldn’t bite or poke eyes. That’s not fair and is a cheap move. BUT, if a player is simply trying to get a hold on the player’s jersey and happens to grab a chunk full of hair, then the long haired player should just move on and not complain about it. The back of the jersey right behind the head is the prime position for a fighter to get hold on their opponent. In that case, your hair is just an extension of your uniform.

And Hartnell hasn’t really “complained” about it to the media, he just tried to draw a penalty on the ice which players do all the time. The on-ice mic just happened to pick it up.

I think long hair should be banned in the NHL. It is very dangerous to have long hair more of a chance to get injured.

wasnt funny the first time you posted this garbage go away already

      • biffnasty - Feb 24, 2013 at 7:30 AM

Another good one. You are good at this

  17. thehighcountrybear - Feb 23, 2013 at 8:47 PM

Girls, girls, you should have watched the game in the seventies…today’s skin heads would have been laughed off the ice, escorted from the arena then returned to the concentration camp from whence they came. Bald on young white men is truly ugly…

  18. sjsharks66 - Feb 23, 2013 at 9:56 PM

Glad i get under so many flyers fans skin. I do like the pens. I also enjoy just watching hockey in general. I like watching games and seeing what goes on around the league.

    Is that bad? Lol

  19. dkphilly1122 - Feb 23, 2013 at 10:22 PM

Milbury is just smart and dislikes the Pens…’s not that he likes the Flyers like that. As for Pierre…….he should wear a Crosby, Malkin or a combo jersey because he is beyond deep throating those two every time he is calling the Pens games. He is on there sacks hardcore yet Pens fans think he dislikes them……amazing. As for Hartnell and his long hair. ….I agree in most sports like Hockey and Football that it should have to fit in your helmet, otherwise you are on your own if someone grabs it or it gets caught up. At the same time I could see Kane grabbing it like a Pens player grabbed Hartnell’s hair in a fight in the playoffs……but Kane will cry racism because he thinks no one likes him because he is black …..not realizing we just don’t like him. Has nothing to do with being black. Simmer gets a ton of praise for just being a hockey player. Jets fans even dislike Kane and his attitude, that says a ton about his charcter.

  20. jimw81 - Feb 23, 2013 at 10:36 PM

As a flyers fan, this is a stupid issue. it’s the job of the officials to pick up on this stuff. if it doesn’t get called by a official, hartnell needs to shut up and move on.

  21. matthewmacisaac - Feb 24, 2013 at 12:04 PM

First- Hartnell was just trying to get the officials to call stuff, even though it probably was an accident. Second- Hartnell grows his hair real long, then when he cuts it, donates it to a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients, so him growing it long has its benefits. Kane, pulling out Hartnell’s hair, is screwing over cancer patients and should be punished for that. Now let the less stupid comments commence.
