Rangers put Rick Nash on IR with what’s probably a concussion

The Rangers won’t tell you what’s wrong with Rick Nash, but whatever is keeping him out of action this weekend has the team putting him on injured reserve. Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants says the team put him on IR retroactive to last Sunday freeing him up to play as soon as Tuesday against Winnipeg.

The issue with Nash is that the Rangers aren’t saying what his injury is and all indications point towards it being a concussion.

Nash took a high, hard hit from Boston’s Milan Lucic that managed to rankle Rangers players. Lucic said ” I don’t hit dirty” and took no blame for Nash’s injury. Nash played the next game despite the injury only to sit out the following two games and a third tonight.

With the compact schedule, Nash missing any more time past this weekend puts the Rangers in a tough spot. The team called up rookie Christian Thomas to fill out the roster for tonight’s game in Montreal.

As a Pens fan (and as a fellow human) I’ll be the first of us to say I hope Nash recovers fully and may there be NO lasting issues from this concussion. This shyte sucks, no matter who it happens to or how. Hang in there Rags fans while he heals up nicely.

Agree….I HATE the Rangers and dislike Nash, but hope he comes back 100% healthy.

The secrecy by the Rangers is absurd. No need to hide his injury (the NHL is guilty as a whole, i.e. the whole upper body/lower body injury) or tell anyone it “isn’t their business”. Just come out and say he is suffering from concussion symptoms.

Unless of course they realized he should not have played the game or two after the hit. Still, sometimes the symptoms show up later so I’m not going to point too many fingers. That said, i hope Nash takes his time, heals 100%, and is a force (coming from a Pens fan). I know injuries are a part of the game, just hate seeing it happen to anyone, let alone stars that put fans in the seats.

I could understand the secrecy for something other then a concussion. After all, if other teams know you have a leg injury, they can target that a bit with clean hits. Can’t really target a concussion though.

We have zero right to a player’s medicals. Did you ever think that maybe Nash didn’t want it public, whatever it was, and for whatever reason? It’s absurd to expect something that is privileged information.

That being said, that you for actually showing respect towards another team. The comments left here seem left by 15 year olds 90% of the time.

hmmm, that a very interesting perspective. almost 40 years of following pro sports and I never thought about that.
whatever ails him best luck for a speedy recovery, the NHL is better with all the stars on the ice.
BTW, I agree , the respect and over all decency of most commenters this year here has been nice too

I believe the medical community has laws they have to follow in not divulging anyone’s medical history, so you are 100% correct in that no one has the right to Nash’s. I don’t know why the fans really care why the players miss games. These are the toughest athletes in sports. If they can play they will. It is a shame that he’s hurt (this from a Flyers fan) but I’m sure that if he can play he will and I’m sure it will be faster than any of us would.

I’m betting against a concussion, since the Rangers reported Darrell Powe’s concussion the next game. I’m betting on it being the groin injury he suffered in Davos acting up again.

This worries me greatly… The season from hell continues… Not what I expected after enduring that lockout :( beer me

I’m glad we let him play 2 more games after the initial hit. I understand him saying he was fine, isn’t that what doctors are there for?

Upper body/ lower body !! Sounds like Bill Belicheck giving a Patriots injury report.

their should be a mandatory 5 game shutdown policy for players with concussion like symptoms.
