So let me get this straight. Clowe plays a puck from the bench late last season against the Kings. Clowe leaves the bench in order to get into an altercation with a Black Hawks player. Seems the dude may be a little mixed up here.

70.1 Leaving the Bench – No player or goalkeeper may leave the players’ or penalty bench at any time during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation. Substitutions made prior to the altercation shall be permitted provided the players so substituting do not enter the altercation.

70.2 Legal Line Change – A player who has entered the game on a legal line change or legally from the penalty bench (penalty time has expired) whostarts an altercation maybe subject to discipline in accordance with Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline.

Looks like even if it was a line change……..Clowe is gone.

probably the same place for the hearing on galiardis boarding. It was a stupid and unnecessary hit by shaw but Clowe clearly overreacted. Dumb move on his part its a given suspension for leaving the bench all intelligent players know that.

It’s my understanding that McLellen is coaching tonight. So, how can it be 10 games?

As for sjsharks86, unless the NHL revokes the instigator rule as well as the bench rule, your argument no longer holds water.

Actually leaving the bench to start a fight is very suspension worthy, it’s black and white in the rule book, 10 games. This rule was put in to put an end to the bench clearing brawls that used to happen all the time, especially back in the 70′s. If the rule weren’t there, Clowe jumps over the boards to fight Shaw, a Hawk jumps over the boards to jump him and then everyone comes and it’s chaos.

Yah, he can expect payback from his clever stick from the bench play vs. the Kings last year that somehow avoided supplemental discipline. This “history” will count against him and be evidence that he’s not too focused on what being on the bench means. Take a seat Ryan. See you in three weeks or so.

Sharks did the same exact thing to Kruger earlier in the game, and just like Shaw, that drew a penalty. Both were dangerous and stupid plays. If you suspend one, you suspend them both. I don’t care that much that Clowe jumped him… unless he came off the bench to do it.

I’m not disagreeing about the hit by Shaw, mind you, but the rule on leaving the bench is pretty clear- ten games, period. Shaw might have gotten away with one, yes, but that doesn’t mean Clowe leaving the bench is okay just because of that.

Because who cares about dirty hits like the one Shaw made on Pavs, let’s suspend the guy who (allegedly) came out to defend his teammate. Shanahan needs to think about what sort of a message he wants to send across the league by focusing on this BS instead of the sort of hits he claims he wants to eliminate from the game that happen immediately prior to this.

So clowe is suspended before his hearing? Where is the hearing for shaws board on pavelski? You know, the entire reason this happened.

I really do not want to say this but, the NHL has a rager for the Hawks right now. Tons of articles about Hossa, their streak, toews fight. Why would they put a negative article about the dirty hit.

Im not hating on the hawks success, they earned it! I just cant stand when a league plays favorites for the successful team at one point or another.
