We keep hearing about all the young talent and skill in Edmonton…? Three years and counting, and I’m not seeing it. Enthusiasm, fresh faces, a Mick Jagger look-a-like, but nothing in the way of anything but the same old same old. Gotta quit dining on CBC, Sportsnet and TSN hype and local interest over-kill! Is anyone really fearing EDM at this point? Yeah they have had 3, 1st overall picks and Eberle and Schultz but after that, there are a lot of question marks. I think people assume they would become the next Chicago or Pitts but personally, EDM draft picks haven’t panned out to be gold. Hall wasn’t the best player in his draft class, RNH has great potential but isn’t hitting the broad side of a barn right now and who knows what will happen and Yakupov hasn’t impressed me yet. Jury is still out (obviously) and EDM has time to develop but I don’t see them being any better than a team that competes to make the playoffs each year. EDM is too small – brittle for my liking.

Baertschi could be solid. Not like anything Edmonton has going on with talent but he could be a solid offensive asset moving forward. If Murray Edwards grows a set and sees this season (and team) for what it truly is and finally ships iggy out and gets a late first for him plus goes for a top 3 pick overall they could have some solid pieces moving forward… and they wouldn’t have to fear what Edmonton is doing to the north. Just sayin
