Ericsson was popping him in the head already. And watch Ericsson throughout this…he’s STILL moving toward him even when he and Tootoo go down…and then throws his hands up because he KNOWS it was his fight and he just got third-manned.

You have more comments on me, than the article? Two players engaged (no way to say they weren’t engaged simply because their gloves weren’t off yet….NO ONE was even looking at Tootoo…then he cheap shots the guy before he even turns to face him?

Love to hear about how that is ok by you – maybe cheap shots in general are ok by you. If it’s the fact that someone has an opinion outside of yours, then eff off.

Tootoo has always been a cheap player, whether it’s his patented big hits, which generally come after about 7 strides and him jumping into the hit, or him sucker punching an opponent, that’s who he is, it’s been that way since he came into the NHL.

My understanding is once players drop their gloves, it’s considered a fight. I can see the argument against it too, however.

Ericsson had no intent on dropping his gloves with that scrub. Detroit is already dead on defense. Tootoo did his job; put himself in the box, rather than Ericsson.

Not to mention……..when you both drop the gloves at the same time and you get popped, how is that a cheap shot? Accept the fact that you got beat up. Now hitting someone when they’re on the ice with a ref on top of them is a cheap shot. Dickhead.

Tootoo did his job.. He was definitely 3rd man in.. Dorsett definitely had no chance to square up. It definitely was a cheap shot but that’s his job. Why let Erricson get a penalty?

It might have been a bit of a cheap play by Tootoo to jump in on a guy whos clearly getting ready to fight someone else. However, the shot that hit Dorsett wasn’t a sucker punch at all and the extra 2 and a 10 for instigating seems about right.

Well, yes and no. Since Ericsson and Dorsett hadn’t actually started fighting when Tootoo jumped in and it still ended up being a one on one fight…. so its really not 3rd man in. If Dorsett was activly fighting Ericsson (they were pushing a bit, but far from fighting) and Tootoo jumped in, then it would have been a 3rd man in.

So it’s not cheap to punch Tootoo while he’s being held down by the linesman? Hypocrite, you’re the one that should be looking at a suspension.

While it is true you were going to square off with Ericsson, Tootoo stepped in as he is more “irrelevant” to a team decimated by injuries, especially on the blueline than would be to have a top four defenceman sitting in the box for fighting your sorry butt!

Ericsson was already dropping the gloves with Dorsett (at least in the process of) so shouldn’t they get the original fighting majors? Then shouldn’t Tootoo get a penalty for being 3rd man in?

Either way, hardly that interesting, Tootoo was stepping in so Ericsson wouldn’t have to fight but he was too late. Tootoo pushed Dorsett away from Ericsson, and Dorsett should be ready for anything at that point, but still got hit by a punch that bloodied his nose. Oh well.

Tootoo gets under your skin and makes you hate playing against him. We went through it for 8 years when he was in Nashville, i’m glad to see that he’s still doing the same when he’s on our team.

I don’t want him playing dirty – don’t go running into Ryan Miller or anything – but the fact that he bugged Dorsett THIS much, is worth it
