There have been some nice sprawling assists and other bits of off-balance improvisation lately, particularly Rick Nash’s memorable helper. John Tavares only got a secondary assist on the New York Islanders’ 4-3 OT win against the Montreal Canadiens, but he clearly triggered that tally as he left his feet:
That overtime-winner was also the first NHL goal (and point) for former first-rounder Thomas Hickey, whom the Islanders claimed from the Los Angeles Kings shortly after the lockout.
