Disagree with your Streit comment. Garth does not trade away players who help the team and are reasonable in their demands. Given his TOI, production and value in mentoring defensive prospects, there can be no doubt as to Streiter's value. He also very much wants to stay and will almost certainly ask for an inflated deal that goes well beyond his real value as PA and Blake did.

Garth brings in players who will meet needs. He doesn't spend money for the sake of spending money. If he can meet organizational needs through waiver pick ups and inexpensive free agents, why not? What high priced FA F has been of equal much less greater value than Matt Moulson over the last 3+ years?

Appreciate the sentiment there, and I'm not suggesting they should, the article is just funny. Like was anyone out there asking "I wonder which player that actually costs money the Islanders are going to try and acquire?" Of course not.

If they could trade Mark Streit for a dead player who could count against the cap without spending a penny they would. Tim Thomas is their third highest "paid" player after all.

No. The Isles aren't going to trade away their future for a quick temporary fix now. That has been Garth Snow's policy from the start and he will not change. He is the un-Milbury. And if you read former Islander asst GM and Detroit GM and current Detroit senior VP Jimmy Devellano's book The Road to Hockeytown, that is precisely what he should be doing. Garth doesn't stick his finger in the air day to day and change strategies based on current issues. He projects years down the road, decides on strategy accordingly and sticks to it.
