Now or never for Oilers, says Hall

With just two wins in their last nine games, the Edmonton Oilers (6-6-3) need to turn things around soon if they want to accomplish what forward Taylor Hall calls their “ultimate goal,” which is to make the playoffs.

“It’s now, kind or, or never,” Hall said Thursday morning ahead of tonight’s home game against Minnesota, per the Edmonton Journal.

“If we don’t start winning games now, we’re going to put ourselves in a really hard spot come the end of the year.”

Hall thinks making the postseason is a realistic goal for the Oilers.

“I think everyone in this room realizes that we can make the playoffs,” he said. “It’s not like in the past years where we had to play out of our minds. This is a group that can do it.”

Edmonton hasn’t qualified for the postseason since it went all the way to the Stanley Cup finals in 2006. The team’s fans have largely stayed patient during the rebuild, but patience is starting to run out.

Also looming for the Oilers is a nine-game road trip, which starts next Monday against the NHL-best Blackhawks in Chicago.

I don’t know why EDM has struggled so badly against Minnesota but as a Wild fan, I am not complaining… MN has done very well vs the Oil in recent years and the Aero’s took it to OKC this winter….. Here is to hoping the Wild get a regulation win and we watch an entertaining game. I am excited to watch EDM fly up and down the ice (hopefully they don’t score :))

      Let’s go Wild!

Their “ultimate goal” should be to win the stanley cup, not just make the playoffs.

well making the playoffs does offer you a chance to win Lord Stanley’s cup but I highly doubt EDM can do it with the D-core they currently have and a few other question marks… Making it to the playoffs is a good realistic goal for them tho, build a history of winning from here on out and reverse the losing spell of the last 4 years

Just don’t win tonight is all :D

While I really have a disliking for Canadian teams (Hawks fan,) I really would like to see this young Oilers group make a name in the league.

I feel like if Crosby and Malkin can make big things happen in Pitt at such young ages, so should Hall, Eberle, RNH, Schultz, etc.

Regardless, starting 6-6-3 a third of the way in is ok. They have games to work with, they really just can’t fall too deep.

A W against the Wild can set them up ok for hoping for a point vs Chicago.
