Samuelsson Detroit

Another day, another batch of Red Wings injuries.

Per the Detroit Free Press, forward Mikael Samuelsson is out a minimum of two weeks with “a non-displaced fractured finger” on his left hand, according to general manager Ken Holland.

Samuelsson has only appeared in three games this season while missing time with a groin injury. The 36-year-old was reportedly injured during yesterday’s morning skate in Nashville when he took a puck off his hand.

Meanwhile, goalie Jimmy Howard is undergoing tests for a more mysterious ailment. The Wings’ number one has been experiencing blurry vision since he was “banged around” during Monday’s practice, per Holland.

Howard lasted just 11 minutes of yesterday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Predators, departing the game after surrendering two goals on seven shots.

“He wasn’t seeing good or something like that,” said Detroit coach Mike Babcock.

The Wings hosts Columbus tomorrow.

They never “bang around” other teams in games so why bang around your starting goalie in practice?

You can look at this one of two ways:
    1. Detroit has always been a bit lucky with an older roster to not have more significant injury issues as their key players have stayed healthy.
    2. Detroit is a bit unlucky after losing some key players to have so many significant injuries.

Either way, injuries have hit Detroit hard this year and I’d be surprised if they don’t look to begin a bit of a re-tool to try and get back to being a contending team.

Uh… their starting goalie is having vision problems? That sounds fairly ominous.
