So you’re saying you’re old enough to have visited Expo 86 but make comments like “how’s the downtown cleanup going?’…and then go on to talk about class! Nice pal. The riot, just so we’re clear, was a few hundred drunk teenagers and 20 something idiots (mostly from out of town). If you think that’s a reflection of Canuck fans then there’s not much we can do for you. It’s not like I would lump all Blackhawk fans as being as ignorant as you!
p.s. Can we just make a rule on here to not use the word class when talking about teams or sports fans.

Brashear, Bertuzzi, Rome, Torres, Hansen, Burrows… Anyone notice a trend here? Seems to me like Vancouver is notorious for turning out goons, cheap shot artists, and players that have a soft spot for cannibalism (Burrows). And the last time I checked a hand was used to catch things, not an elbow or forearm. We have these amazing things called opposable thumbs as human beings and they work great for catching pucks!

I truely believe it is I actually visited the worlds fair in ’86 and fell in love with it.

I also grew up in Chicago and am completely in love with it.

What I am say is that there is a big difference in gang on gang violence and hockey fan on their “beloved” city violence.

You’d NEVER see that type of destruction from Blackhawks fans. So lets be careful how we use the word classy in the same sentence as Canuck fan.

By the way, I’m one and three.

I’m not ingorant, just poking fun at the fact that he happens to be a very skilled player, very much a fan favorite in Chicago, probably one of the highest as far as number of Chicago jerseys sold, and Torres got 25. I do understand his history and totally agree that influenced the decision, but to say Hossa’s star status couldn’t possibly have also influenced the decision is naive.

I really didn’t go that far off the rails.

I’m not saying I agree with most of my Hawk fan brethren. But looking things over again quickly, and IIRC last year, nobody was saying Duncan Keith’s hit on Daniel was clean. They may be trying to argue two wrongs make a right, and that Vancouver deserves it, but they’re not trying to legitimize what was easily (well, less easily after last night) the worst hit of the bunch as clean hockey.

That’s what’s frustrating me about the Vancouver reaction. They’re defending the hits I mentioned as indisputable clean hockey plays.

Meatballs and homers are everywhere. But there’s a level of denial that puzzles me, that’s all.

@comeonnowguys – I agree with you that it’s pretty silly to try and keep score in instances like this, let alone try and get Vancouver and Chicago fans to agree on what counts and what doesn’t. Then you went off the rails when you said that it’s only the Canucks fans pumping the “our angels, your devils” theme. Just have a look back at some of the Hawks fans’ posts. Especially about Hansen, who doesn’t even have a history of being dirty like some of the other Canucks. It’s happening on both sides.

It doesn’t really matter wether or not it was intentional or not. Unintentional dangerous use of the stick resorts in a penalty accidental or not. Why not the same thing for such uses of the elbow/forearm? I know he got a roughing penalty, but when it involves a headshot maybe it should be a major? Just thinking out loud.

But I get why as a Chicagoan you’re so concerned – for about 24 hours a few blocks of our downtown looked kinda like your South Side! (Joking, it never looked that bad).

@kicksave – it’s really baffling that Chicago fans even try to take this line of reasoning with the Keith hit. You’re trying to say that a moderately late shoulder check that only made head contact because Keith was partially bent over (not because Daniel raised his elbow or left his feet) is justification for Keith completely ignoring the puck and elbowing Daniel in the face? Not to mention how you word it, as though something “caused” Keith to do what he did, and there was no choice in the matter. Well, if nothing could stop him from doing it, he shouldn’t have even been suspended, should he?

Hmmm let me see… Hossa scores two goals in a short span toward the end of the second period. Then, once the teams emerge from the locker room, the only remaining goon on VC’s squad goes after his head on a jump puck… I’m thinking it was just coincidental.
