Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano avoided a suspension for slew-footing Dallas Stars forward Antoine Roussel, but the NHL fined him $10K.
Here’s video of the act, which occurred in the second period of Sunday’s 4-3 Flames win:
Giordano, 29, is a first-time offender. That might have something to do with avoiding missing time.
Here’s the league explanation for slew-footing, via Rule 52:
Slew-footing is the act of a player using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent’s feet from under him, or pushes an opponent’s upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent’s feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice.
