Something that has always drawn me to hockey has been the culture. Part of that culture is the level of commitment people have to each other, whether it is just cheering for a team or coming together when something bad happens...I feel like people go out of their way to lend support. Maybe this is part of every sport, but I haven't seen it as much in other sports or it's not as visible. Odd thing is I didn't recognize it until I stopped playing and became more of a fan. Going to the rink to watch games, and to be in that environment, is unique partly because of the actual setting of arena, and partly because of the people involved. So many decent, level-headed people involved in hockey. It's a great culture and it's evident here as this kid recovers and excels.
