Habs rookie Gallagher concussed on Luke Schenn hit

Feb 17, 2013, 2:30 PM EDT

Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher suffered a concussion when he was struck from behind by Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn in the third period of Saturday’s contest, according to the Habs’ official website.

If you missed the hit, you can view it below:

Schenn did not receive a penalty as a result of that play. The question now is if the league will choose to discipline the Flyers blueliner for his actions.

Before the incident, Gallagher scored a goal and registered an assist to help the Canadiens earn a 4-1 victory against Philadelphia. Going into Sunday’s action, the 20-year-old was tied for fifth place among rookies with eight points in 13 games.

The good news is that Gallagher felt fine Sunday morning, according to Montreal coach Michel Therrien. All the same, the Canadiens will follow the NHL’s concussion protocol and he won’t be available for Monday’s contest.
