They need to move Kunitz back with Malkin and Neil. Put Bennett up with Sid. I’m not a Tangradi fan boy, but I don’t think they gave him (or any of the other fill-ins) a fair chance on the 2nd line. You need a good 8-10 games to develop some chemistry…especially with the tiny preseason we had. Kunitz, Geno, Neil was lights out last year…and Sid could turn Shaq into a 25 goal scorer on his wing. I’m looking forward to seeing what Bennett can do.
With that said…I wouldn’t mind Setoguchi in Black and Vegas Gold. Send Niskinan and a pick?

I don’t know: Bouchard, perhaps. But Seto would still have another year on his contract, and the Pens would have difficulty fitting it in next year. They probably need a rental.

Sure, it would be awesome to see one of these guys in a penguins uniform alongside 71 & 18, but the Pens do not need help scoring goals. The focus should be on DEFENSE. I want to see Shero put together a package for a shutdown defenseman. In time, we will find Sullivan’s replacement… hell, it might even be Beau Bennett making his NHL debut tonight! However, the focus should be defense first, and then let the best players in the world (71, 87, 18) do the rest.

i agree, i dont like either one for the spot the pens need filled. they need to get a bill guerin, mark recchi veteran type guy again. craig adams is the oldest guy i think and while he is a great 4th liner and pk guy they need a veteran scorer who can work with a malkin/crosby type playmaker. i think they missed the boat by not picking up knuble – he wouldve been perfect IMO.

As the saying goes, one team’s trash is another team’s treasure. Niskanen was basically free candy in the Dallas trade and the Pens turned him around. He still has some improvements to make, but he was playing pretty solid hockey pre-injury. I’d like to see the Pens go after Seto, simply because he’s proven he is capable of putting up decent numbers, and he’s still fairly young. PMB had concussion issues in the past and the last person we need on this team is another Top-6 guy with a soft head.

Matta or Dumolin and a pick outside of the top 3 rounds for Seto would make sense. Seto is getting 3 mil a year over the next couple of years – probably means that TK gets non tendered but I don’t know how many Pens fans would shed a tear over that.

parise is doing just fine 11 pts and +1 rating on a team that cant score goals. he is a .81 ppg career guy and he is at .79 right now, he is doing exactly what he is capable of doing, now whether they overpaid for that production is a matter of opinion. he is what he always has been. suter not so much but i think half the hockey world expected that he wouldnt be as good without weber.

Let’s just hope Beau Bennett works out. If not, try mixing the lines up with the guys we have. I don’t want to get rid of any of the big time D prospects the Pens have. Why not just use the lines from last season? 9-87-24 and 14-71-18.

jeffrey is not the answer. boychuk was cheap and was a good thought but he hasnt put up the pts either despite being a good hustle guy. tangradi was not working. i think the pens are gonna exhaust all options before making a move and calling up Bennett is their last chance of getting production without making a big move. theres plenty of time before the deadline to figure it out without paying out the you know what for someone, hopefully they dont do anything drastic.

Joe Vitale has played solid hockey all year. Does that mean he deserves a re-occuring shot at a top 6 role?

I’m not trying to be rude but I think supporting guys like Eric Tangradi, Jeffery, and Boychuck is coming from wanting to see the underdog or no name guy succeed. While that notion is noble it’s simply isn’t realistic with those guys. They are what they are…..3rd and 4th liners.

I would imagine the wild are more of looking at one of the penguins many D prospects that the penguins have. Probably not their top two(Pouliot and Morrow) but one of Maata, Despres or Harrington would be my guess.

I disagree that Jeffrey got a solid chance. Let’s not forget, the two games he played with Geno right before Boychuk came onboard, Jeffrey was playing relatively solid hockey.

They did give Jeffery a chance. The reason no one noticed him is because he did as much as Tangradi, Kennedy, Boychuk, and Glass……nothing. He’s not even skilled enough to warrant patience if he isn’t producing.

Jeffery is a center not a wing who doesn’t finish particularly well, is not a top 6 set up man, isn’t overly physical, and while sound defensively is not deserving of a shutdown role on the third line. That makes him an enigma/spot start player when injuries in the bottom 6 occur.

I would guess of the two it would be setoguchi… I can picture seto doing incredibly well if he is on a line that has someone else drawing a lot of attention and allows seto to get into the slot and release his shot… he shows flashes of great potential / ability but its here today gone tomorrow… I could easily see him scoring on a line with malkin or Crosby (if that were to happen)… but the question is are the wild willing to give up on him for possible the last pick in the first round? I would guess so but its hard to tell at this point… zucker would fill the top 6 role easily if pmb or seto were traded.

Yeah tangradi used to be in my league…. He wasn’t great, he got a lot bigger after high school but fact is he was not even the most skilled player on his line in high school… When he got drafted I never expected him to make it far.

Personally, I never expected Tangradi to be anything more than a 3rd/4th liner but Bylsma and Shero acted like he was something that he wasn’t. He doesn’t use his size well and can’t finish to save his life. Before the Penguins do anything (in my opinion) they should give Jeffrey a real chance on that wing (5 – 10+ games) before they make a move.

Yeo’s still Shero’s boy. The Pens have tried everyone so far on Malkin’s line, I guess they just aren’t happy with what they are seeing. They called up Bennett who was a first rounder recently, I think everyone’s hoping that works…but they also traded Lovejoy and Tangradi so it’s been pretty obvious that Shero’s taking steps for a change…
