Kings’ Sutter wants a lot more from Quick

Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter told John Hoven of Mayor’s Manor that he hasn’t decided if he’ll roll with Jonathan Quick, 27, or Jonathan Bernier, 24, in net on Friday. He does know that he wants more from the defending Conn Smythe winner, though.

“Really haven’t thought about it. I haven’t even gotten to that yet,” Sutter said. “Bernie’s coming off a strong game. And we need Jonathan (Quick) to be – I’m not jumping out and saying anything special – we need him to play a hell of a lot better than he has. Our goals against, our save percentage, all that stuff is not where it has to be.”

The Kings also provided updates, especially on defense. You can read more about Keaton Ellerby, 24, and Slava Voynov, 23, in the post, but here are some injury bits:

  • Sutter said that Alec Martinez, 25, could possibly go on the injured reserve with an undisclosed injury. It sounds like he’ll miss at least one week.
  • The Kings’ head coach had a rather sardonic take on how Willie Mitchell, 35, is progressing with his knee injury.

“Willie Mitchell – I have no update,” Sutter said. “The only thing I can tell you is historically he’s a player who has missed significant periods of time in his career, and it appears that he’s historically doing that again.”

Well, then …

You, sir, are a complete moron.

The guy had off-season back surgery. He suffered mightily through his great run in the SC playoffs last year, and still turned in a record-setting performance.

Before commenting on a hockey column, it would be really swell if you knew what the f*ck you are talking about.

The LA Kings are a much better defense with Willie Mitchell in the game. He’s a rock, and I hope he returns soon, along with Matt Green.

I registered for an account just to say this: I’m a huge Kings fans and have been for years…I’ve watched Quick grow over the years and let me tell you he’s overrated. Sure he’s agile and flexible but only because he HAS TO be as he cannot play the correct angles for his life. What looks like an amazing sprawling save for Quick would just be a routine shot to the chest for Bernier (someone who has better fundamentals). Quick can get really hot due to his athletic ability but when he is cold he is terrible as he doesn’t have his fundamentals to rely on. So Ron, I do know what I’m talking about and Quick is still overrated

Sorry, you do not know what you are talking about.

Quick won the number 1 position on the team after just plain being better than Bernier. He has indeed grown over the years and last year he was just plain awesome from the start of the season all the way to the end of the SC Finals. He literally got the Kings into the playoffs on his goaltending skills alone, and set records along the way to the Conn Smythe trophy. He was a Vezina finalist based solely on his regular season performance.

Let’s face facts, you are just a frustrated Bernier fan who has not realized his dream of having Bernier as the no. 1 goalie. I like Bernier too, but facts are facts, and the content of your post gives you away, and belies your true bias.

In the words of that great philosopher from Los Angeles who passed in the last year or so: “Can’t we all just get along?”
