On one hand, you can trade him away for picks and maybe a prospect, in an attempt to not completely lose out on that original trade with boston if he walks this summer, or you could resign him long term, because all of a sudden the leafs are a strong team in playoff position who would need someone of his talent to stay relevant. Signing him long term and making the playoffs this year would signal that the leafs rebuild might finally be over.
