Minor trade to pass along: the Montreal Canadiens have sent goalie Cedrick Desjardins, 27, to the Tampa Bay Lightning for goalie Dustin Tokarski, 23.

Both goalies have spent the season in the AHL, Desjardins with Hamilton (7-13-2, .905) and Tokarski with Syracuse (18-8-4, .900).

Tokarski was the 122nd overall pick in the 2008 draft; Desjardins was undrafted.

    That’s a weird one…?

I think this is setting up for getting Montreal a backup and letting Budaj go.

Not sure about this one at all. Desjardins was on Tampa before?

Tokarski was built in Tampa’s AHL system to be a starter one day…hmmm, just weird. An older average goalie for a really young average goalie even trade. I would have predicted Tampa keeping Tokarski until he was at least better trade collateral. They got nothing in return for him now…just years of wasted time developing him to make a wash-out trade.

Yeah that was exactly what I was thinking…

18-8-4 isn’t up to par? Save % is a bit low, but that could be from a bad game or so….curious.

This is an odd trade. Ive been praising Tokarski for quite sometime.. But a part of me thinks that Yzerman saw something we didnt. I trust his judgement. I just gotta wonder what made them change course with Tokarski

Yeah it’s a bit shocking but Montreal got the better end of the deal…. Unless Stevie knows something we don’t but that could easily be the case
