Why can’t I classify Cooke as anything other than a dirty player? It’s clear you don’t watch the Penguins on a regular basis or you would know your opinion is nearsided. Cooke isn’t dirty any more. He does have a sketchy past, however the past is just that, the past. Move on, he has. Since his suspension, he has been almost totally clean and (who knows) he may one day be Lady Byng worthy.

Matt Cooke is one of the dirtiest players in the league. Just because he’s not being suspended now does not mean he’s a Lady Byng candidate.

This hit was not dirty but there’s no way you can classify Cooke as anything other than a dirty player.

Agree. If I was a Sens fan or player I would be skeptical. With his history you can’t help but to question his motives or actions. I will give him the benefit of the doubt but very cautiously.

And notice habsman didn’t bother trying to deny that Subban’s stomp on Staal was FAR worse.

This was a freak accident. Cooke hasn’t done much of anything wrong since his last suspension. He’s kept his nose clean.

Obviously unintentional. Watching the video 50 times and convincing yourself it was intentional doesn’t make it so. There wasn’t the slightest amount of intent there. Bad luck. People need to start using common sense when it comes to players getting injured. It happens.

I agree completely, hope it was intentional. No matter how much he says he changed (and he hasn’t done anything major since he said he was changing) when you hear Cooke’s name in a situation like this your first thought is cheap shot before seeing it. I can’t make the call from the video, doesn’t look intentional, but if this was Kaleta, Marchand, Burrows, Ott, etc. it would be the same discussion.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this. I’ve played for over 50 years and have never made a stopming motion on the back of someone’s leg, and I’ve never had it happen to me. Total disregard for the safety of a fellow player. And not the first time. No discipline I’m sure, but there should be.

But you are talking about someone taking a 2 millimeter blade attached to the bottom of his foot and ramming it into a spot on the back of someone’s leg, what, a centimeter big? At the same time, skating on one foot and oh yeah running into the boards at the same time. A ninja couldn’t do it – and Matt Cooke is no ninja. Freak accident – you guys give him WAY too much credit.
