There was nothing cheap about that shot he took. He was facing the boards playing the puck, turned out to face the ice and saw Ovechkin coming and turned BACK TO THE BOARDS.

That’s why there was no penalty on the play. It’s also why Veersteeg got a double minor for cross checking and the Caps got a power play on the altercation. Chris basically said “I didn’t like that I made a bad decision and put myself at risk so I’ll cheap shot you on my next shift to make myself feel better.”

It’s nice to see such a packed house in Sunrise (see 0:04 of the “fight” clip). And what was Versteeg’s problem? In the 1st clip, he clearly looks back and sees Ovechkin at 0:30, then turns to face the boards. You wonder why some of these guys get concussions sometimes because they think “Oh, there’s rules in the league that penalize a guy if he checks me from behind so he’ll think twice about checking me!” Then they proceed to turn toward the boards and get crushed. Smart plan, dude. The checker gets a penalty and you get time away from the ice, if not a ride to the hospital. Same thing happened to PMB when Bogo leveled him last year.

You guys are right, with the exception of any thrown punched ovi isnt a fighter. Neither is versteeg. But this “encounter” was significant BECAUSE neither of then are known to do this. Def because of the situation their respective teams are in.
So yea you can bash it, totally legit. Not the same as orr against scott,but it is still significant within the setting of that game

That would be a “Gordie Howe” hat trick. But lets be serious…that was not a fight. To put this on par with those who actually throw punches and earn 5 mins would just be wrong. Ovechkin is not a fighter, and I’m not saying that is a bad thing, it’s just not his game. He pretty much just tried to pull Versteeg’s jersey up as far as he could before they were separated.

That being said, I did watch the game and I have to say it was quite exciting. The caps seemed to give up earlier in the year if they were down going into the 3rd, so to be down by 2 with under 10 mins left and make a comeback should be a big boost for them. Great win, but Tampa Bay on Thursday will be a big test to see if the capitals can keep moving in the right direction.

What a comeback! That’s the kind of comeback they need to keep the momentum going into Tampa Bay. If they can sweep the Florida teams and pull one out against the Rangers, then they’ll be pointed in the right direction for the first time this season.

Gotdie how hat trick. We came ready to do battle.
Something notable about this game: besides all other games when we went down more than one goal, we battled back to win. I sincerely hope this is a step in the right direction. We play bolts tomorrow and while they may be in a slump it will certainly be a good test of just how serious the capitals are.
