Getty Images Former Flyers, Lighting, Maple Leafs and Thrashers defenseman Pavel Kubina has signed with Swiss league outfit Geneve-Servette, according to the team website.
Kubina, 35, split last season between Tampa Bay and Philadelphia, acquired by the Flyers in exchange for John Kalinski and a second-round pick (the Flyers send a fourth-rounder the Lightning’s way.)
The Czech rearguard appeared in 17 games for the Flyers, notching four assists while averaging over 17 minutes per game. He also appeared in five of Philadelphia’s 11 postseason games.
Kubina told the Servette website he had several contract opportunities from teams in North America, not a surprising admission given the dearth of available defensemen in the NHL right now.
