Flyers’ McGinn is fine with hit by Canes’ Wallace

Feb 9, 2013, 6:28 PM EDT

Carolina Hurricanes winger Tim Wallace was ejected from Saturday’s 4-3 OT loss to the Philadelphia Flyers after boarding forward Tye McGinn, as you can see in the video below:

Now the question is if Wallace, 28, will receive further discipline for that hit on McGinn, 22.

While Brendan Shanahan might decide to drop the hammer on Wallace, McGinn didn’t seem bothered by it. He told the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sam Carchidi that he feels fine and gave this assessment of that boarding check.

“It was a hockey hit, that’s all I know,” McGinn said.

Kudos to the young winger for giving an honest appraisal, but that doesn’t guarantee that the league will see it the same way.

In other news from that game, Wayne Simmonds made his return from a concussion today. The 24-year-old forward received 15:41 of ice time, firing two shots on goal and delivering two hits.

Shanny won’t have anything to say about this

    • trickc17 - Feb 10, 2013 at 6:25 AM

Can’t leave you feet. Going to cost him a game.

      • misterchainbluelightning - Feb 10, 2013 at 1:08 PM

He sure did, yup it should cost him a game

  2. 604YVR - Feb 9, 2013 at 7:05 PM

That was a good, solid hit.

  3. mclovinhockey - Feb 9, 2013 at 7:13 PM

Lots of class by McGinn, you can see Wallace mainly wanted to just get in front of him but he saw the numbers and really just got the elbow to the back of the head. 5 and a game sounds just if McGinn is alright

    • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 9, 2013 at 8:08 PM

That’s the dumbest homering I’ve ever heard. Clean hit. Refs need to figure out what they want the rules to be this year, then let the players know.

Didn’t even look like a hit that should have put him down. My guess is another dive from the Cryers.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 9, 2013 at 8:12 PM

After watching it again it’s clear that McGinn should be suspended for embellishment and Corburn should be suspended for trying to act tough when everyone in the league knows he’s a wuss.

Dude your team wrote the book on diving. That was clearly no dive. It shouldn’t have been a game misconduct but it was a borderline hit. Looks like he did leave his feet slightly and target the head. Probably deserved a penalty but not a major and a match penalty.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - Feb 10, 2013 at 1:02 PM

Once again bringing his brand of trolling analysis to every Flyers thread. Stalk much fanboy? Clearly old boy left his feet, one game will do him good. If Mcginn was embellishing he must of picked it up from that ballerina Letang.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 11, 2013 at 8:09 AM

        Simply my take on it.

      • mclovinhockey - Feb 10, 2013 at 3:10 PM

homering? I said the call was correct. If I wanted to be a homer I would say give him 10 games as well.

The hit was not clean, he left his feet and hit with the elbow to the head. It also did not seem bad enough for a suspension with the 5 and a game.

As for the Cryers and diving comment…. you are a moron… Please look at your own team before making these comments.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 11, 2013 at 8:10 AM

Thanks, I don’t get that from the footage though, clearly a clean hit that was exagerated.

      • justafan2013 - Feb 11, 2013 at 8:18 AM

Withdraw must be a pens fan

      • mclovinhockey - Feb 11, 2013 at 1:34 PM

so by you not getting that from the footage do you mean you did not watch the video or you did not watch video with an unbiased mind?

Try watching this thinking Crosby was getting hit by Rinaldo. If you think it would be okay for Rinaldo to leave his feet and have the main contact be Crosby’s head with Rinaldos elbow and still think its clean (actually think about it, do not just blow it off) If you still think its clean that okay, clearly you would be a fan of the more physical game when we were able to slash people in the head and only get 2 minutes.

  4. stakex - Feb 9, 2013 at 8:26 PM

There is some minimal head contact which might have caused McGinn’s head to hit the glass… but its not a dirty hit, and theres no way Wallace should have been ejected from the game.

Just another case of the refs making an after the fact reactionairy call, which is getting to be really old this year.

Pen fans love trolling Flyer posts. Cryers? That’s original……and every other team’s fans know the king divers are the Pens, namely Crosby. You Pen’s fans losers really love the Flyers and have absolutely nothing else to do in Pittsburgh. Literally is there anything else to do in Pittsburgh?? A Third class city behind Philly. It has to be lame there cause all you Pen’s fans hijack Flyer posts 24/7.

  6. juliath83 - Feb 9, 2013 at 9:31 PM

Clean hit or not, first Shannahan asks himself if he personally likes the player. Or if they play for the Red Wings. Then he doles out the punishment accordingly.

  7. luvusa1 - Feb 9, 2013 at 9:31 PM

@hockeywithdrawal: You must have intelligence withdrawal based on your posts. Loser.

Most pens fans deal with that same illness

  8. orangeandblack67 - Feb 9, 2013 at 9:31 PM

I swear hockeywithdraw only makes comments for the sake of reading his own words.

    • govtminion - Feb 9, 2013 at 10:15 PM

Yeah, there’s a few folks around here that make me wonder just what combination of genetics creates someone that balls-slappingly stupid.

  9. phillyphannn83 - Feb 9, 2013 at 9:41 PM

Never seen a more obvious boarding call. Straight elbow-shoulder to the head, he made no attempt to let up and even left his feet. Anyone trying to defend this hit simply hates the Flyers and dont think any hit on them will ever be illegal. But dont worry, theres millions of us who feel that way about the Pens.

  10. phillyphanatic77 - Feb 10, 2013 at 12:12 AM

Honestly I don’t think the hit warranted a game misconduct. It looked like it could’ve been boarding, checking from behind, or maybe, just maybe, elbowing. But I think Wallace just caught his head cause McGinn was pretty low. The thing that frustrated me most about this hit (after I knew McGinn was ok) was the inconsistency of the refs this season. This play warranted a game misconduct and a major penalty but two refs staring directly at the Simmonds elbow decided it was perfectly within the rules. I know Erskine got a just suspension and I’m dwelling on it but I (along with the players) don’t seem to understand what warrants most penalties. I mean Backes gets kicked out on a textbook hit and Wallace gets dismissed on a borderline call, while Erskine plays on. It’s just ridiculous. I think Bettman, Daly, and Shannahan need to have a sit down with their referees because it’s becoming a joke how inconsistent the zebras have been so far.

    • justafan2013 - Feb 11, 2013 at 8:24 AM

Phanatic77 you nailed it right on the head, as much as I love the game sometimes it’s hard to watch the me in stripes take the games over.

  11. mojosmagic - Feb 10, 2013 at 9:05 AM

The clown did two things wrong; he left his feet on the hit, and elbowed him in the head hence a 5 minute major and game miss conduct. It will be reviewed and he will get suspended. End of story.

  12. mclovinhockey - Feb 10, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Anyone think hockeywithdrawl is just a new crosberries account? Both clearly never watched a game in their life. Although crosberries and his 60 accounts all usually have a name about a specific pens player.

  14. hockeywithdrawal - Feb 9, 2013 at 8:18 PM

I’m not sure Gionta would want you getting your panties in a twist over that one…nothing more than a love tap to keep him out of his territory…definitely doesn’t qualify as a head shot you dribbling crybaby.

This was AFTER Clarkson tried to assault Crosby (who didn’t even have the puck) because he was mad about being dumped by Engelland, right? Pretty sure you have no right to cry right now.

  15. hockeywithdrawal - Feb 9, 2013 at 9:15 PM

I agree the officiating has been horrible – way to inconsistent from game to game for the players to have any idea what the rules are at this point.

Also, great job by the Devils today to frustrate not just Malkin but most of the top 2 lines. Hoping the Pens can take back 1st place tomorrow – Henrique and Matteau both played great. The Pens need more shots on Brodeur…like double what they had today.

Dude are you seriously on a flyers article again? Are you ever going to get a life? Find a woman or a man whatever your into, it’s seriously old seeing your unintelligent postings here everyday. Your talking about a game that has nothing to do with this article. We get it you love crybaby and shrek and the rest of the baby penguins but go do that on a penguins article where your intelligence levels are even, that of 5 year olds.

I’m sorry? I’m not following what you are saying…
