Pens fan and I love jagr still. He crushed me with his gambling issues and force of the hand to patrick ta trade him but many of my best pgh memories as a kid had Mario on IR and jags being the best in the world. Pgh is blessed, Mario in his prime jagr, Sid, geno, Francis, the list goes on and on of the world class talent that won cups with us! We are very lucky that a small city like ours can get some of the best players for our city to watch.

he is 27 goals from 7th on the list and 32 away from 700. very real possibility he could get there with just one more season, based on the way he is playing this year.

I just called them legendary, which is something thought about before.

With Lidstrom retired, in my mind it feels like Jagr, Selanne and Brodeur are the last three players that might be considered legendary in the last generation.

There was a series on the Biography channel about the legends of hockey, covering various players that people pretty much unanimously consider the best of all time. (For anyone that hasn't seen it, you can find most of them on youtube.) I could see Jagr, Selanne and Brodeur being featured, as well as recent retirees like Hull, Sakic, Modano, Yzerman, Hasek, Roy and others. The three I listed above are all still playing, the fall into that same generation in my mind. While I know there are no true generations in hockey -- new great players come into the league all the time -- it seems like something of a milestone.

(Or maybe it's because that is the amount of time I've been following hockey closely, rather than as a casual fan; about 20 years.)

so I haven't seen a LOT of the Oilers this season but can I assume this is why Ryan Whitney was a healthy scratch the other day? he got beat pretty bad on not even that tricky of a move.

Not being a Penguins, Caps, Rangers, Flyers or Stars fan, I don't really root for or against Jagr. That being said, congrats to him on this milestone.

@bardown66
That may be true on technical merits, but when two players have reached such lofty levels as Jagr or Selanne, it hardly matters which is ahead of the other.

In other words, make a list of all the players that have ever played in the history of the NHL. Jagr being ahead of Selanne a spot or a few spots is pretty miniscule. Both are legendary.

He is better than Selanne btw, he has more NHL games due to jagr's khl stint. He didn't take advantage of those years to out distance between him and jagr

Jagr is a great player, and as a penguins fan I forgave him in my mind a long time ago. Hall of fame, without a doubt. However, he will never be better than Mario. Lemieux played less games and is still ahead in total points I believe. I'm not going to be a dick and say he isn't an awesome all time great, he just isn't in the class with Mario, Orr, or Gretzky.
