“We’re trying to get that out of our game, and unfortunately it happened,” Mayers said. “That’s my opinion; I don’t believe the puck was there yet. You make a decision to go for a piece of a guy’s body, happened to be my head.”

I don’t necessarily agree with him about going for the head, but he was asked a question and that’s how he answered. I’m not sure I’d call that “spouting off.”

Back to Sharks stories, please.

Mayers only recently became classless when he spouted off about being hit in the Sharks game. You got blasted fair and square dude, take it like a real NHL player and quit whining.

Still, everyone knew who the “other” team in the UC was. They were the team whose home games you couldn’t watch on TV. Even in the 21st century.

I’ve never wished for a man’s demise, well, a man not named bin Laden, but I’d be lying if I hadn’t wondered what could be for the Blackhawks after WWW passed. And they’ve surpassed that.

This actually plays slightly into my point. We’re talking about a team who in the early 00′s was dubbed the worst franchise in sports in ESPN. The team they’re playing were Western Conference finalists not eight months prior to tonight. I keep hearing how “snobby” I am for thinking the Coyotes would be better off in a better hockey market. I’m wrong a lot of the time, and I wouldn’t mind being wrong now… I just wish the Phoenix area would prove me wrong.

Even as a Blackhawks fan, I hate when people talk about how awesome Hawks fans are. Between 1997/8 until around 2006, no one cared about the Blackhawks. You could have a conversation with people the next section over because the only thing separating you were empty seats. I hate bandwagon fans, and part of me misses those days. I know, because I was a season ticket holder.

Point of my bitter rant is this…don’t throw stones at Phoenix or anyone else, because most of the Hawks fans talking trash about the Phoenix arena didn’t even know there was a team other than the Bulls in the United Center until 5 years ago.
