Sabres GM Regier making trade calls; Ehrhoff to return tonight

It’s been busy in Buffalo lately on both the injury and speculation front.

To the latter — speculation! — Sabres GM Darcy Regier told he’s making calls around the league, looking to make a deal in the hope of snapping Buffalo out of its 3-6-1 start to the season.

“”I’ve talked to some GMs the last few days,” Regier said. “It’s a pretty quiet market right now. A number of teams have very small things they want to do, quite honestly, with the hope that whether it’s with their players or our players, they’re going to get them on track because of their previous history of them being a lot better.”

It’s obvious Buffalo needs to improve its defensive play — they’re allowing nearly four goals per game — and that improvement could come from within as injured blueliners return to action.

It also might have to come from within.

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reports it “appears to be a soft trade market” at the moment, with defensemen at a premium.

Wade Redden found work quickly after being bought out by the Rangers, and Detroit signed 33-year-old Kent Huskins — unattached to start the year — after a rash of injuries depleted its defense.

Speaking of defensemen, Christian Ehrhoff returns from injury tonight to face the Habs after missing Tuesday’s game in Ottawa with a undisclosed muscle strain.

It’s unclear who he’ll play with on defense because, as alluded to earlier, Buffalo’s a mess injury-wise.

Andrej Sekera and Robyn Regehr are both out with ankle injuries (though head coach Lindy Ruff said both could return by the weekend), and the Buffalo News projects it’ll be Ehrhoff, Mike Weber, Jordan Leopold, Alex Sulzer, Adam Pardy and Tyler Myers on defense, with T.J. Brennan the odd man out.

Lindy Ruff states the obvious: “We need to win games”

Bruins fans acting like Red Sox fans. LA won the Cup last year so everyone but Kings fans have nothing to brag about here.

I thought they won the cup last week against the Bruins… oh wait; it was a fight. Looks like the B’s are responsible for destroying their season again this year!

I think you and every other person in the world have different definitions of the word ‘easy’.

In a regular season game in the second week of the season….you guys should have a parade. Let’s see how they perform in the playoffs – oh wait they aren’t going to make the playoffs. Congrats on the big win.

Your response doesn’t make any sense. In fact it backs up what I was saying. Buffalo and their fans treated the game and the fight like it was the Cup. It was a fairly meaningless game in January. That was my point. You act like it was the season. The Bruins are 7-1-1 the Sabres are 3-6-1. I’ll take points in 9/10 games over 4/10 any day of the week. But yeah, the Sabres won a game. yay for you chump. I love how the last place team beats the first place team in one game and act like they are champs. I don’t think the Sabres have won a playoff series since 07, but I am happy you won a game. In January.

Tallinder back to the Sabres makes so much sense I’ve just convinced myself it’s going to happen.

regier making a trade will happen about as soon as pigs flying, hell freezing over and the coyotes ownership resolving.

Shut be a Boston sports fan is it a requirement to be smug and repetitive ? Buffalo fans did not think it was their Stanley cup!! Are you that smug that you think we care only about beating Boston teams?? Do you think the sports universe revolves around only your teams? Just shut up!
