Giroux jersey tops list of best-sellers for January

Feb 7, 2013, 3:21 PM EDT

Claude Giroux jersey

It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Flyers captain Claude Giroux, but at least he can brag his jersey was the top-selling for the month of January.

Per Sports Business Daily (via ESPN), here are the top 25 as sold at shop.NHL.com.

1. Claude Giroux
2. Jonathan Toews
3. Sidney Crosby
4. Ryan Callahan
5. James Neal
6. Kris Letang
7. Joe Thornton
8. Zdeno Chara
9. Alex Ovechkin
10. Vladimir Tarasenko
11. Pavel Datsyuk
12. Ryan Kesler
13. Evgeni Malkin
14. Brad Richards
15. Patrick Sharp
16. Henrik Zetterberg
17. Henrik Lundqvist
18. Nicklas Backstrom
19. Steven Stamkos
20. Tyler Seguin
21. Patrick Kane
22. Teemu Selanne
23. TJ Oshie
24. Jonathan Quick
25. Marian Hossa

PS — We wonder if the fact only one player from a Canadian team (Kesler) made the list has to do with the duty the site charges for items shipped north of the border.

Jason you are ALL Cryer’d up today! You and Milbury have the market cornered.

    But how is this news?

    • paresident21 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:29 PM

Dude you cry and whine about flyers fans on the Crosby article yet here you are AGAIN commenting on a flyers article if you don’t like it you don’t have to read it. You really do a great job of giving penguins fans a bad name by doing what you do. Get a life, just because Crosby isn’t the top selling jersey doesn’t mean you have to be a puss about it.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:35 PM

Easy there, lunatic. Actually I wasn’t complaining, crying, whining, etc., just an observation. Didn’t say I didn’t like the, um, article, just don’t really see how it’s news. It’s a list of jersey sales…really? Not sure how Crosby had anything to do with this, really. Just wondering how, AFTER the season starts, all the hockey news went to sh*t?

      • paresident21 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:43 PM

Really? Just an observation of jersey sales that you just so happen to have to take a shot at the flyers again like the obsessed ex gf you are. But then again by the amount of time you spend commenting you probably have never been with a girl. you always seem to have an excuse when called out man up to what you are a troll. You do realize the company that owns this site also owns Comcast, which own the flyers. They are going to post more flyers articles because of that if you can’t handle it I would go elsewhere for your news you seem to be very distraught everyday.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:01 PM

        :-(

    • thecheeman - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:00 PM

      Were you looking for ProHockeyHardHittingNews.com?

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:37 PM

Not at all, just maybe something about possible trades, standings, interviews with players (related to hockey, not BS meant to bring out the idiots like the last article), game analysis for tonight, etc….you know, the way real writers like that Mike Halford guy does it.

    • biasedhomer - Feb 7, 2013 at 6:36 PM

It is news big boy. They do it in every sport.

    • broadstreetbeatdown - Feb 7, 2013 at 9:30 PM

The ultimate fanboy is at it again. I think he has a bone for G.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 8, 2013 at 12:16 PM

I don’t believe I said anything at all about “G”. Plus, I don’t think anyone has a bone for G this year. Doesn’t look so ‘elite’.

  2. bgrillz - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:27 PM

Apparently America loves under performing captains…I’m looking at you too AO…In other news, 4 Penguins in the top 15.

    • paresident21 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:32 PM

You do realize hockey is more than just point right? It’s called two way hockey, ya know defense, which he has been doing this year more than anyone on the team.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:40 PM

Hahaha that explains it. Just settle down, schizo.

      • paresident21 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Hockey withdrawal I would love for you to come down to south Philly, your a tough guy behind the computer screen but your prob a 30 year old virgin who lives in your moms basement who sits here all day waiting to comment on how great the penguins are and no other team in the world deserves news, get a life douche

      • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:02 PM

        there there..shhhhhh :-(

      • friedberg7 - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:29 PM

Hockeywithdrawal you better not be a cop or war vet cause you will get messed up in Philly.

    • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Apparently America loves spending money on unnecessary crap. This is yet another example. What happened to everyone who swore to never give another dime to the perpetrators of the lockout?

If you want a jersey you should try eBay. You can get them for about half the price and better selection from any era (including the old CCM ones that are way nicer than this RBK stuff). Also, with most of them, the money went to the greedy bastards long ago.

      • bobhpine - Feb 8, 2013 at 3:45 AM

How else should we live our lives? I’ve been waiting for some wannabe Doors fan to tell me how to spend my money. Thank you Mr. doors fan.

Jim Morrison would think you’re a total loser.

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Feb 8, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Just some friendly advice. Get bent.

    • chrisvegas - Feb 7, 2013 at 6:51 PM

If you actually watched the Flyers play you would see that Giroux has been playing awesome. Both his linemates are injured and he is still playing great two way hockey. The points aren’t there right now, but his play is still stellar. He does it all.

  3. jaredphi - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:29 PM

Not much of a surprise imo.

Philly is big on buying team merchandise. It’s rare you see a fan at a game at the Wells Fargo Center who does NOT have a Flyers jersey on.

I personally own Giroux and LeClair ones…..along with about 10 player T-shirts (Simmonds, Giroux, Briere, Meszaros, Hatcher, Richards, etc.)

    • steelpenbucs87 - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:08 PM

Man, how do you decide on game day? Do you ride the hot-shirt for superstition? Rock a guy who needs a big game?

I have three – Letang, Crosby, and a Kasperitis jersey from back in the before time (don’t you judge me)… been riding this 4 game streak out with Tanger.

      • jaredphi - Feb 8, 2013 at 1:33 PM

I’ve never given it much thought to be honest….at least with regards to the shirts.

The Giroux jersey is always worn nowadays to any Wells Fargo Center or away games. I’ve retired the LeClair one to wearing around the house or on local trips around DE and PA.

The shirts I just tend to grab one out of the drawer and wear whichever one comes out first.

The Richards one probably gets worn the least as it shrunk a bit and is a little tight on me.

I wear the Simmonds one a lot as I really like him and his style of play… and the Mez one gets a lot of wear as he’s my favorite Dman on the team.

  4. broadstbully33 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:29 PM

And there the troll is again. How sad

    • hockeywithdrawal - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:42 PM

I hope logical or honest opinions free from hate and bias don’t interfere with your support group.

  5. broadstbully33 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:32 PM

Hockey withdrawal is having a really bad day.

    • bobhpine - Feb 8, 2013 at 3:48 AM

And how’s your day going broadstreetbully? Is Mom still hassling you about getting a job? Lots of laundry to do?

      How sad.

  6. stratomaticfan - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:36 PM

That is shocking, considering that those are among the fugliest unis in the league. Can’t believe Flyers went from their awesome classic unis to those atrocities. Looks like my 9 year old daughter made the name plates out of some white duct tape and a sharpie.

  7. faceoff77 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:37 PM

NHL.com? Who buys jerseys there? If you really want to know what the best selling jersey is you need to ask the Chinese.

    • ironyisadeadscene - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:46 PM

      HAHA, ding ding

    • blues1988 - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:11 PM

haha my first thoughts exactly. speaking of, anyone know where to get a good chinese tarasenko jersey? i’ve scoured the net looking for one, even emailed on of the websites telling them to add one and they got back to me saying it was a Chinese holiday and they were currently taking off 2 weeks. lol.

  8. broadstbully33 - Feb 7, 2013 at 3:46 PM

It most be his time of month.

  9. thecheeman - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:02 PM

I’m really surprised Rick Nash isn’t on this list. Rangers fans not ready to embrace him I guess? and who is buying all the Selanne jerseys?

  10. steelpenbucs87 - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:04 PM

I would be interested from Flyers fans what THEY see in terms of proportions of Giroux jerseys to other Flyer jerseys around. My guess is that one thing that helps in this regard is that he is unequivocally the Flyers star guy (and therefore has the most desirable jersey) – I can’t imagine more than a smattering of Hartnell’s, Briere’s, maybe a few Pronger’s, Bryz’s and Jagr’s (for the early adopters)… but again its easy for me to say that because I’m not there.

Biggest surprise – Jonathan Quick being that low. You figure with people getting swept up in the cup run that a bunch of peoople would dive headfirst into Kings fanhood with a fresh Quick sweater.

    • paresident21 - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:33 PM

You see a ton of Giroux jerseys, ESP from the women because they find him “hot” . He is by far the most popular jersey. I had three Richards jerseys before he was shipped out, then I got my Winter classic Giroux jersey that I rock everywhere because I love how they did the classic jerseys

    • hockeyfan28 - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:37 PM

The only flyer in Claude’s area code in terms of Jersey sales is Scottie Hartnell cause he’s all over the city and area doing stuff he’s even dating a Philly weather forecaster….Briere has his following and so does Kimmo…..Bryz is a wait and see cause no one knows if he’s even ping to be there next year….but another thing that could driving Claude’s Jersey sales is all the new ones have his Captain’s C so everybody who has one has to buy the updated one

  11. orangeandblack67 - Feb 7, 2013 at 4:16 PM

Gotta love those Pittsburgh Trolls. We all know that if Sid or Gino were at the top of the list it would be a different story. As far as our sweater being ” ugly”, it shows our pride in our history as a franchise. Unlike many other teams we haven’t had to change our look to regain fan interest.

  12. phillyphannn83 - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:01 PM

    blues1988, check out kennyjersey.com

  13. mj1818 - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:12 PM

    That’s a shame just a shame

  14. lordfletcher - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:40 PM

it looks like Minnesotans don’t buy online as often as other folks around the country. I can tell you the Parise sweaters are EVERYWHERE!!!!!! It would be interesting to see the numbers with store sales included.

  15. mclovinhockey - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:43 PM

Yeah in Philly we spend money on our team so they can spend money on the players. Ever notice how the flyers have never been even close to bankrupt because their fans support the team year in and year out?

  16. broadstbully33 - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Hockey withdrawal needs therapy. It’s really to the point of being pathetic

  17. orangeandblack67 - Feb 7, 2013 at 5:56 PM

Slow your role friedberg, I’m a vet from Philly and you are obviously talking out of your A$$ about something you have no clue about. Drumming up an incident that has nothing to do with this article and trying to paint Philadelphia in a bad light because of something that happens in other cities and had nothing to do with him being a cop or a vet and was just a simple case of writing checks with his mouth that his a$$ couldn’t cash.

  18. remosnozzberri82 - Feb 7, 2013 at 8:39 PM

BS….. They jumped that dude. Can’t take a loss or a beer.

  19. orangeandblack67 - Feb 7, 2013 at 9:08 PM

And you know this how?… Cause you saw a 30 second clip of a video? Take it from some one who was there, rangers fan continued to chirp every flyers fan by calling them pu$&ies and scumbags etc. he then made first contact and retaliation ensued. Granted there was a third man in on the second rangers fan which I don’t condone; but it was far from jumping someone. Like they say “don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house” or have a glass jaw for that matter.

  20. jonkchar - Feb 7, 2013 at 11:58 PM

how in the heck is the best player in the world only at #13?

  21. tackledummy1505 - Feb 8, 2013 at 1:12 AM

I hope people know that the Flyers are the most popular hockey team in the world. While in the Navy I got to visit a lot of different countries. The countries that love hockey had local team jerseys in their shops and the only NHL jersey that was usually in the shop was Philadelphia Flyers jerseys. Like I’ve said before it’s the only reason why the NHL allows the Flyers to exist, they bring in a lot of money. Other than that the NHL doesn’t give the Flyers an inch. Most penalized team in the league since 1975 and we’ve been top 1-3 in penalty minutes. The Flyers are the most penalized pro sports team in history and that doesn’t look to change this year either lol. Even when the Flyers changed their image to a more finesse team in 2006-07 when they finished last they were still top 3 in penalty minutes. Yes I know they are usually top 5 in Power Play minutes too, but thats only because refs don’t want to make the games look like they’re calling it 1 way. Look it up people the NHL hates the Flyers lol.
