It wasn’t like he was the missing piece to a Cup-winning team last year. And it’s not like if he played in Red Deer for another season that the Oilers were going to stop having sell-outs every night. I hope Nugent-Hopkins is able to eventually put these types of injuries behind him and have a productive NHL career, but yeah I think questioning the Oilers’ decision to put him straight into the NHL against top defense pairings at 18 (and probably 170 lbs) is completely reasonable.
