Video: Zach Parise joins father J.P. in 200-goal club

Feb 5, 2013, 12:38 AM EDT

Zach Parise followed in his father J.P. Parise’s footsteps by playing for Minnesota’s NHL team (albeit the Wild). After Monday’s 2-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, he also joined his dad in the 200-goal club:

That marked the 28-year-old’s sixth goal of 2013 and broke a three game pointless streak.

NBC SN pointed out that the Parise clan is now just the second in NHL history to score at least 200 goals:

Bobby Hull: 610 goals
Brett Hull: 741 goals

J.P. Parise: 238 goals
Zach Parise: 200 goals

(Just imagine how many Bobby would have scored without that WHA detour.)

Liam McHugh pointed out that the Gordie Howe-Mark Howe combo fell just short, with Mark finishing his career at the 197-goal mark. One father-son pairing to watch his Peter and Paul Stastny:

Peter Stastny: 450 goals
Paul Stastny: 129 goals

Even with Paul’s struggles, he’s only 27, so he has plenty of time to collect the 71 goals needed to join this rare club. Unlike Brett and Zach, he might struggle to eventually pass his dad, though.
