Helm’s back issues remain a mystery

Darren Helm has no idea what’s causing the back pain that’s caused him to miss all but one of the Red Wings’ games this season.

The uncertainty isn’t for a lack of investigating. The 26-year-old forward had a bone scan Monday, and he’s already had an MRI that revealed no structural damage.

“Nobody is really sure what is going on,” he said, per the Detroit News. “I’m just hoping one day I can turn the corner.”

Helm will reportedly see a back specialist later this week as the search for answers continues.

I think I can speak for all Red Wings fans, we really miss this guy. Helm is the spark-plug for the Wings, and we are sorely missing his energy on the bottom-lines and PK. Dude just can’t catch a break. Personally, I blame Radulov.

Agreed, we need this guy back

It’s amazing just how bad the 3rd and 4th lines look without Helm in the lineup. With him in the lineup it pushes Abby down to the 4th line and Emmerton (Boyd Devereaux 2.0) out of the lineup.

Very true – after the first two lines… there is little-to-no-threat.

      Come back soon Darren.

His greatest value is the extent to which his speed depletes opposition reserves, most noticeable as third periods wind down. Badly missed, and underpaid to boot…
