Rupp played two years in Pittsburgh and we were sorry to see him go. Reliable 4th line guy who would occasionally see time on a top line for a net front presence. Will fight–and fairly well–but is not a thug. Came to play hard every night, knew his limitations and strengths, and stayed within them. Pittsburgh would have kept him, but the Rangers offered more money than the Pens could fit under the cap. When asked before training camp last year if the team would miss Rupp, Bylsma said, teah, and pointed to the three guys the pens brought in to replace all the different things Rupp did.

He’s getting old, true, and I don’t much about the Wild, but if the two players they traded for him were spare parts in their eyes, they did well.

I wonder if Parise asked about him. They were teammates in Jersey a few years ago.

Why are Rangers fans so excited to see him go? He can fight, he can play a little offense, he can cheapshot Marty Brodeur, he’s huge.

Despite the top-line of beastly stars, it seems weird that the Rangers are going to try and get buy in to their system from so many new players.

In one year Rangers have lost Prust, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Fedotenko, Rupp. Each guy individually can take a walk, but without training camp Torts is going to get people used to filling shot blocking lanes on the fly? Isn’t Rupp > Asham for this reason alone if nothing else?

as a ranger fan, am glad to see rupp go. i think and i hope the trade was a good one for the rangers, and the trades will better the team. time will tell.

Went to tonight’s Coyotes/Wild game and I didn’t mind hearing Rupp announced as a scratch. He was here in Phoenix for a short time and showed he is definitely one of those guys you love…as long as he’s on your team.

There is no won/lost in a trade. It could go great or horrible for both teams.

Powe is a good guy, but he’s the epitome of a 3rd/4th liner. Works hard, not flashy, not much of an offensive threat. His specialty is the PK. Ranger fans might remember him from when he played in Philly.

The Wild, however have many other options to take Powe’s role. Mitchell and now Rupp will fit there and they could always call up Veilleux, Bulmer, or Larsson. Even if they take a bit of salary, they are gaining a Cup-savvy veteran presence in the dressing room.

When you are one of 2 players traded for Mike Rupp, you pretty much know you’re stock has hit rock bottom.

Palmieri was piece that the Wild were excited about when they traded for him with the Devils last year but the Devils had already dealt him out of their future plans so it wasn’t seen as a loss from here.

Given Palmieri’s reputation, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares with Tortorella if he makes it up to the big club. Seems like an oil and water mix to me.

It didnt clear any room. Palmeri is going to the AHL forever. The only way you’ll see him in MSG is if he buys a ticket.

It’s one contract for another. They traded 2 guys who did nothing maybe hoping the change of scenery will do them some good.

Palmieri doesn’t count in the deal. It was more of a “I’ll give you a good PK guy only if you take this prick along with him”

I personally thought Palmieri was a good player. He skated on the Devils top line for a breif moment. I was wrong, i guess.

Well said. This does open up a contract, but I’m not sure if its any time soon they are going to use that extra spot or wait until the college hockey season ends. I can’t remember which Gopher game it was, but I heard there was a big time (Justin Schultz type) free agent out there. Or they just sign one of the own to it that spot after the season ends.

losing Powe and a kid who doesn’t want to be in MN system costs Fletcher nothing… so how did he overpay? This deal is 50/50 both teams get what they want for 4th line guys… don’t over analyze a small trade

how did the wild get the “short end if this stick”? powe did nothing, palimeri didn’t want to be on the team. we’re loaded with prospects so dumping a couple worthless guys for a vet who can move bodies seems like a win for the wild to me.

Wild overpaid, Rangers win this one IMO. Losing Powe and Palmieri is obviously not crippling, but Rupp is a 33 yr old winger with very limited upside.

I feel weird about this trade too, but a 4th liner and an AHL’er for a 4th liner is not a panic move by any stretch of the imagination. It serves two purposes. It gives the Wild more size up front which they sorely need. It gets someone who doesn’t want to be here (Palmieri) out. And it gives Chuck Fletcher more options in the future by opening up a contract spot (Wild were at 50 out of 50).

All this leads me to believe that Fletch isn’t done yet. This is setting up something else. With all the rumors of Kassian and Setoguchi being trade bait, I suspect that this deal was also about some future moves as well.

The Rangers are keeping Bickle around for the fisticuffs. They didn’t need both he and Rupp to sit on the bench waiting to fight. Opens the spot back up for Cally, who will probably be back in a week.

About the “young season”: Bear in mind that by the end of this week, some teams will be rounding the quarter pole, 12 games, in this young season, and there is already a 12-point gap between 1st and last in the West!

On a serious note, I somewhat agree with you. I don’t mind the Wild looking to make moves early except, as a fan, it doesn’t seem like this trade was particularly good for our team. But Fletcher has earned the benefit of the doubt, so we’ll just have to watch the games.

Personally, I don’t mind it. The season is short so what really is too early? Or for that matter too late? Both guys Wild moved are easily replaceable, especially Palmieri after the crap he pulled earlier this year.

Great trade these additions were defiantly necessary and Sather’s continues to trend upward after getting his sh*t together.

As a wild fan they seem to be hitting the panic button on a few players pretty quickly. Based on their past couple moves it’s obvious they feel they need more size and strength, but seems odd to make this many moves so quickly in a young season. It will be interesting to see if it works out.
