I know people on PHT get annoyed whenever a Flyers fan considers an acquisition from an opposing team, but I'd probably take Whitney over Kurtis Foster or Lilja. Now that teams are allowed to eat salary in trades, it seems more possible that someone will take a chance on him. If the Oilers want to dump him for a mid to late round pick, and keep some of his cap hit, there would probably be takers. And with Whitney being in the final year of his deal it makes even more sense for the Oilers to try and get something for him. He's not that far removed from being an above-average defender with some offensive potential. Or they could just keep scratching him all season, we'll see.

while i wish the pens had gotten more out of him when he played, he did help bring kunitz over in that trade and kunitz has turned out to be worth the pick they used on whitney anyway. with whitney 2008 = no cup, 2009 w/out whitney + kunitz = cup. i'll take it.

"Clearly, new head coach Ralph Krueger hasn’t been a fan of the 29-year-old’s work this season."

Yeah, i remember the pens put him at wing for a few games because he was a jagoff at D.
