I understand, but it still wasn’t a racist comment. Commenting on different skin color is exactly that: commenting on different skin color. It doesn’t imply anything racist, whether by your stated definition or more commonly assumed “racial” superiority.

“Racism is usually defined as views, practices and actions reflecting the belief that humanity is divided into distinct biological groups called races”… a racist remark does not have to imply superiority, all it has to do is distinct that people are of a different race.

I don’t think there are many legitimate Flyers fan who believe Iginla or Yandle are actual possibilities. I’m happy with the roster Holmgren has assembled. They have absolutely underachieved, but when you put so much faith in young players without expecting growing pains you’re fooling yourself. Most of the kids were expected to step up into expanded roles this season. But their struggles, combined with numerous injuries to key players, has caused this slump. At the end of the day it’s still only 9 games. There’s still more than 75% of the schedule to go. I truly believe they will turn it around and make the playoffs. And that’s without making a major move. Although I would argue your point that one move can’t turn a team around. During the last shortened season the Flyers struggled, much like this season, and decided to trade away Mark Recchi. In return they got John Leclair and Eric Desjardins and it turned around their entire season. They went to the conference finals that year. So one move can influence the performance of an entire team.

If you knew ANYTHING about Philadelphia, instead of just feeding into your own stereotypical preconceived notions, you’d realize that 75% of Philly fans know Panaccio is a buffoon. His lack of hockey knowledge is confounding considering the amount of time he’s been on the job. NO ONE believes that Calgary would hand us Iginla for a prospect of Laughtons caliber. Granted Laughton’s stock has risen but he still just protects as a probable third liner, maybe a 20-goal 2nd liner. I was really surprised PHT picked this up bc when I read it on CSN I thought it was absurd. It would atleast take a couple high picks and probably another quality player/prospect (along with Laughton) to get a player of Iginla’s caliber. But you are completely wrong about Flyers fans as the majority of us believe Panaccio is a tool.

Unbelievable insight from hockeywithdrawal on a Flyers page. You managed to produce a logical comment without throwing in a “Philthy” or “Cryers”. I’d hafta agree BSchenn and Couturier were thrown into the fire last season, while Voracek and Simmonds experienced the same thing in Columbus and LA, respectively. I’m not surprised at all they’ve come out struggling this season. Most of the young guys were expected to take another step forward without the safety net that players like Jagr, Hartnell, and Briere (healthy now) provided last season. Couturier moved up to 2nd line center, while Schenn, Voracek, and Simmonds all rotated on the top line. I believe they will all be successful it’s just gonna take more than 9 games to settle into their expanded roles. As much as we love big names in Philly I think the smartest move would be to hold onto everyone while they fight through the growing pains. With Goaltending looking like a non-issue (finally), this team will be dangerous when the collective slump ends.

Seems to me the Pens have about as much defensive depth as the Flyers. Now Pittsburgh has more prospects, obviously, but not a gluttony of NHL-ready Dmen. On top of that, their Goaltending has been hit or miss. When (or if) the Flyers get healthy and collectively pull out of their slump (which will happen at some point) I’m positive they’re the last team the Pens wanna see come playoff time. You guys haven’t had to deal with any injury adversity this season, while the Flyers will be better and deeper for fighting through our issues. And if we can manage to pick up Iginla or Yandle we’ll be that much more dangerous.

Honestly, only part of the team that looks pretty decent right now is (am I really going to say this out loud) the goal tending. You can’t just look at the record to see it. Terrible defense, odd man breaks, tons of penalties and even breakaways are killing the Flyers. I’m not saying Bryz is playing like he was in Phoenix or that he’s the final answer to the goalie issue in Philly, but he’s the strongest part of their play so far.

I’d agree with most of that – the Flyers have a great roster, but it’s young. Very talented, but a lot of those players were given NO time to develop. If they can make it work, they’re going to have to let it mature. Matt Read is an excellent example of what happens when you let your propects mature…and there’s enough examples of what happens when you rush things on the roster that I really don’t need to go into that…

bobhpine – Exactly. I understand wishing/hoping/praying for the best as a fan but the scenarios above are just fantasy. Sucking it up for a bad 1/2 season isn’t going to magically make the current Flyers play better next year. They have a young core, but not much younger than the Penguins. I know its early but its fair to expect more from a team with this much talent. Relying on a big trade or aquisition in the future that will make all the stars align is what Islanders fans do…

Bobhpine u sir are an idiot. Bryz has played really well. Limo said himself he was seriously thinking about retirement and his contract is up either way. Laughton has buzz around him already because of his solid play thru his 5 games. Briere wouldn’t leave Philly. And I never said anything about trading. Do you not know the diff between trading and free agency? My guess is you are a pens fan with limited knowledge of the game.
