I love Watching Ovechkin, but lately he hadn’t done much. Some people in Washington don’t want him and other teams would love to add him for that extra star power. It might be good for him to consider a trade. He doesn’t even seem happy anymore.

And THIS is why Ovi is not a truly great player, and Crosby and Malkin are. Neal was a career 25-goal man before Malkin. Dupuis was signed for $1.5m for a reason – before finding his way onto a line with Crosby, that’s about what his production was worth. Meanwhile, Ovechkin gets noticeably worse when he isn’t paired with an All-Star playmaker, as we saw from the production differences last year when Backstrom was in and out of the lineup.

When Ovy is wound up and let to do his thing he is the best player to watch in the NHL ! I understand putting the governor on him to play a team concept is necessary for optimum team success but when he is left to free lance he is the most entertaining player in the league ! As an expert in hockey I have obtained a doctorate over the years in the sport watching my Philadelphia Flyers ! Our Captain Claude quite simply now in these parts is know as THE CAPTAIN has wet Ovy’s pallet with that playoff hit last year and I fully expect to see best player in the NHL to have mastered embellishment to be punished by Ovy every chance he gets if the refs call it square !

Just watching him in the first period of the Pens game, he’s not even playing the puck…just going for big hits. And not that there’s anything at all wrong with that, he’s a physical player and they are all clean hits (not leaving his feet which is good, he fixed that). But unless they use him as a sniper on a scoring line, instead of a plugger on a grinding line, he’s not going to get any points.

Or if the Flyers quit taking major penalties, tied for 3rd most in the league, maybe they will play some more 5 on 5 or have opportunities to have other teams do something stupid and take penalties for. Maybe play a more disciplined game than blame the refs for the team leading the league in penalty minutes as well as being tied for second in bench minors.

Great players make 3rd liners into top 6 forwards. Lemieux did it for a long time. Love him or hate him, Crosby does it with Dupuis and Kunitz. There isn’t one team out there who has an All-Star top 6.

I’ll tell you one thing thats not helping Ovechkin get going…. playing with 3rd/4th line players. I mean when was the last time anyone saw Ovechkin get a good outlet pass, or a solid setup while playing at even strength? Almost all of his even strength chances hes had to create by himself… and its going to be hard to score a lot of goals like that. Not to mention playing with bottom six line mates is going to kill his assist total.
