The NHL must have directed the officials to increase focus on these GI calls. The Boston-Toronto game on Saturday had phantom calls each way. At least those did not change the outcome of the game. This really cheapens the game.

Check out the two in the Bruins-Toronto game Saturday night. Both should have counted.

It’s beginning to look like something’s afoot. This many bad interference calls can’t be coincidence. It looks a lot like the obstruction/hooking mess after the last lockout.

This may have been even worse than the awful call that cost the Leafs their only goal Sat. night. Negligible contact OUTSIDE the crease should certainly not be a penalty or negate a goal. Ridiculous.

They don’t need more video reviews, make the goalie interference call clear as day. If you outside of the crease as a goalie, make them fair game. Or at least make the rule understandable so they can get the call right the first time. Because last thing we need is to make the refs have no pressure to get the call right the first time. Giving refs the option to always change their call will make them lazy.

Agreed. I’ve thought about the idea of giving each coach a call for automatic review from Toronto once per game. Originally I thought one per period, but that’s six in a game if both coaches use them all – wasted time to the fans in the stands, and terrible for the pace of the game. But I figure with one each, useable on goals or penalties only, they’d be able to clean up a lot of the human error the refs experience.

One downside is, there’s still the potential to abuse them to buy players rest time in the right circumstances, and I’m not really sure how to remedy that.

I don’t know, what do you guys think?

They should give the refs whistles that only work every.third time they try to use them. It sucks that there’s no way to argue those calls after the fact.

and I thought the Flyers goals disallowed in the Flyers-Sabres games a couple weeks ago were horrendous….wow…..need to be able to review these types of plays and goaltender interference shouldn’t be getting called when the goalie isn’t in his crease

Seriouslly though, goaltender interference when a goal is scored should of course be a reviewable play. I know the argument is that its a subjective call, but so are a lot of the “kicking motion” reviews. Far too many goals are disallowed due to phantom GI calls, and its a really easy problem to fix.
