Jeez, the Pens fans on this board are certainly some of the most annoying individuals out there.

What are you basing your statement on? I give credit where credit is due. But I didn’t see anything outstanding from the Pens in this game, I saw them beating a lousy team. I hate to be the one to break it to you but not everything the Pens do is godly.

I was at the game yesterday and this (at least in my section) seemed to be a pretty common complaint – everyone was screaming, “Shoot!” the moment someone got the puck on their stick and a little bit of space. Same thing happens with Pens fans as well for that matter.

For everyone’s edification: on a powerplay you don’t want to shoot for the sake of shooting – as my Peewee coach used to say, “While shooting is never a bad play, it’s not always the RIGHT play.” The fact of the matter is that on the powerplay you have the luxury of time and space to try to get the best possible shot. But when you take a shot – you risk a defensemen sending it 96 feet if it doesn’t go in, and you losing 20% of your powerplay time retrieving the puck. So having patience on the powerplay is not a bad thing.

Now with that being said, I do believe that some teams can let the perfect be the enemy of the very good – not taking a very good shot because its not perfect – but for the most part blindly yelling “shoot!” is not the right thing to do.

Don’t worry, those of us whose can speak and write correctly don’t expect much from those PA natives. But if you’re going to correct one grammatical error, why not fix them all? In truth, it might have been better to delete and start over. In DC, we have class where it counts! Really, how embarrassing for you to post a comment on class while having now respect for the English language and in turn having no CLASS? It was a rhetorical question. Dictionary.com may help.

As a Penguins fan, I have to say it is truly awesome that the refs are completely on our side. I mean, literally every W is aided by a bevy of favorable calls that always turn the game in our favor. The Devils, Rangers, Caps, and of course, the whining, sniveling, pillow biting Flyers, are all consistently cheated out of ever rightfully beating the Penguins. The refs always so obviously RIG the games, man! They are all fixed. You gotta LOL.

It’s so awesome because Crosby has never been held, but he manages to get the calls.

The Caps were about the win today. I mean they were seconds away from overcoming a two goal lead with 64 seconds left and BOOM…two penalties on Washington, and then its over.

So crazy guys.. Love the conspiracy!

Well, like footballfan said earlier, it may be a bad attitude. Teams who have a dearth of talent and produce great results have to have the character to handle the top of the hill. I’m not saying there are not character guys on the Caps, I’m saying the focus may not be there or the team needs better leadership in the locker room. You take the highs and the lows the same. I hate saying this, but a great NHL example is the Red Wings. All those was with great leadership… And they had tremendous success, even without winning it all every year. There’s something. To be said for heart. And passion for the game. It goes with the skills to make you a champion.

Whining about officiating after a 6 – 2 drumming (excluding the goal scored by the glass) is just a way to ignore the bigger problems of the team (no matter what your point for bringing it up in the first place).
If Malkin’s shot to the stands did not nip the glass (I couldn’t tell) it should have been a penalty. The hook on Crosby (and yes, no matter if it impeded his progress or not, it’s a hook) was also a penalty. There are a ton of calls missed both ways in every game. Get over it.
As for the rest…the “biased” announcers, Sid’s “diving”, the refs favor whatever team the Caps play – just…enough. It’s a loss, and if you can’t handle it, maybe hunker down in your safe room because it looks like you’ll have a few more than you’re used to this year.

Carlson wasnt hooking he had his stick out but it wasnt wrapped on crosbys arm, nice try by crosby going down at the end to try and draw a call there though.

And the missed call on who was it? Carlson? Hooking Sid the whole way to the net? A bad call here and there goes both ways. It ALWAYS has. Doesn’t mean the Pens got helped or the Caps got hurt by the officiating. That’s just excuses

I feel for Adam Oates, he inherited a team full of headaches in the Washington Capitals.

I can’t quite figure out why they’re playing so badly, they have talent on that team and their goaltending isn’t terrible (Neuvirth played really well against NJ, Holtby looked worse than he is today).

I think Ovechkin is trying to do way too much, its like he thinks he needs to put the team on his back – the dude is insanely talented, its better for the league when he is performing at the level he has established in years prior, its a really weird situation.

Just so you know, no one’s EVER happy with officiating. Take away the PP goals, Pens still won. To say that that team (or Philthy) isn’t winning because of officiating (if you are) is insane. There are always calls on both sides that fans don’t agree with.

Ovie reminds me of another star talent that cherry picked and never played defense. It may be blasphemy, but luckily #66 learned the value of being a more complete player. I doubt Ovie will ever learn that lesson.

Great weekend, Pens. And they finished it off with a Kunitz hat trick! I believe those that say the Pens needed to knock the rust off for a few games. This is real Penguins hockey! And the Volkoun addition in the offseason improves the biggest need- fewer pucks in our net. Gives Fleury a bit of competition, too, which makes both play well. Anyone looking at the improved play of Paul Martin? I don’t care what was wrong with him before, but this year he looks like what the Pens needed when they got him. Better D was the Achilles heel last year.

Caps fans, it’s time to wake up and understand that the game isn’t just offense. As exciting as it is to watch the boys scoring ridiculous amounts of goals as they did during Beaudreau era, that didn’t equate to wins in the playoffs. I realized it was time to dump Ovechkin after they lost to Tampa Bay in the playoffs a couple of seasons ago. He is one of the most predictable players in the league. This is a team sport and he clearly doesn’t buy into that. He’s awful defensively. Just watch him when the other team comes up ice and he’ll lollygag around center ice waiting for a clearing pass. only trouble is that gives the other team a 5 on 4 basically. No problems with Oates yet. As someone pointed out, Caps need a training camp.
