Erskine to have disciplinary hearing for elbowing Simmonds

Feb 2, 2013, 10:51 AM EDT

John Erskine‘s elbow to the face of Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds that sparked a brawl between Zac Rinaldo and Matt Hendricks has earned him a meeting with the NHL.

Katie Carrera of The Washington Post tweets that Erskine has a 2 p.m. hearing with the league to determine his punishment for the flagrant shot. Erskine has no suspension history, but the blatant blow to Simmonds’ head will likely earn him some time off.

Simmonds left the game with a head injury thanks to the hit and Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said he had “a little bit of whiplash” as well.

In case you missed it, here’s video of the play (and fight) thanks to CSNPhilly.
