Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson is the NHL’s first star for the month of January, with Sharks forward Patrick Marleau and Sabres forward Thomas Vanek named second and third stars, respectively.

Anderson, 31, has been practically unbeatable in his first six starts, stopping 178 of 184 shots for an NHL-best .967 save percentage and 0.99 goals-against average.

Marleau, 33, ended the month leading the league with nine goals, eight of which were scored in the undefeated Sharks’ first four games.

Vanek, 29, has a league-high 15 points and has registered at least a point in each of the six games he’s played. Twice already he’s had a five-point game, including last night in Boston.
