Yeah. I'm sure it had nothing to do with Buffalo utterly failing to stand up to the Bruins last season, then going out and getting a hired gun in the offseason.

There's no way John Scott wants to do the only thing he does well against the team that was the impetus for the contract offer he got from the Sabres.

No way. Nope.

You know that this fight had nothing to do with the Miller/Lucic incident? This fight has been brewing ever since the Bruins played the Blackhawks a few years ago when Thornton got sliced by a skate and the Blackhawks bench was chirping him. Thornton took exception and Scott was on that team saying that he would kick Thornton's ass in a fight(which ended up happening). Sure enough they finally got to play each other and it happened. Scott wanted to fight Thornton, specifically; and I don't think Thornton's ever said no to a fight. This feud was independent of the Boston/Buffalo rivalry.

Horton has a history of concussions and no longer is that player. And Bergeron is a hard worker but nobody is mistaking him for a tough guy. Nearly all hockey players are "tough", but tough isn't a top 3 word people use to describe Bergeron.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Bruins lineup. It's top notch and can play with anyone in this league.
But "tough throughout" is not true. No team in todays NHL can be described this way.

That's a good question - as a Sabres fan, would I have rather had Lucic got knocked out and concussed in a fight vs Scott, but the Sabres lose? Boy, that is seriously a toss up. I think the rest of hockey nation underestimates the Buffalo fan hate for that guy after he took a cheap shot at Miller and concussed our goalie.

Have any of you actually watched a hockey game before. The tough guys fight each other. that is what happens. You may all hate Lucic or Chara but Lucic is a 30 goal scorer and Chara is a perennial Norris trophy winner candidate. SB Nation posted something prior to the game on how these guys would fight. I hate to break it to you, but this was not about Lucic running miller. It just wasn't. It was about Buffalo showing that that type of thing wouldn't happen again, but honestly more that Buffalo grew a pair. a 6'8" pair. Gaustad and Lucic settled that. Just like the Savard/Cooke thing was settled the next game. Scott wasn't even on the team. It makes no sense. it would be like the Bruins signing scott next year and having him get in a fight with Pittsburgh's tough guy and saying it was about savard. stupid. it was about two rivals; and their respective sheriffs playing hockey. Scott didn't even go near Lucic. To all the people saying Thornton deserved it or whatnot. Learn the game. Really. Just cause he's not on your team doesn't mean he's not a good or respectable player. He's tough, but he is the best at what he does - and by this I mean he can actually play. He can be on the ice and not hurt your team. He has played over 450 NHL games and isn't a goon. 130 pims and 15pts a year isn't a "goon". Thornton has 67 playoff games and his name on the cup a few times.
one more: mostly to the Vancouver(not babych) and MTL fans who like to call Lucic and Chara cowards. PK subban runs from everyone but marchand and I didn't see anyone go near Chara since the pacioretty incident. is the whole team Cowardly habsfan? Yes, we know lucic wouldn't fight Laraque. He retired 2+ years ago. let it go; he is also out of hockey because goons aren't needed anymore. they hurt your team. I think he just got arrested for fraud, no? Lucic was also like 20 years old. Lucic is a star. Chara is a star. you don't see stars fighting useless player; you just don't. how come sedin didn't fight Marchand? Marchand is actually good - is he a coward? no, cause if he breaks his hand on marchands helmet the canucks season is done. I hate when Chara or Lucic fight. they are too valuable to the team. Honestly most of these comments show how little about hockey you know.

You equate taking a bad 2 minute penalty (he was the first penalty, not the 2nd that made it a 5 on 3, if you watched the game) with giving up yourself to throw down and get 5 minutes each against a guy and who plays 4 minutes a game and poses little to no offensive (or defensive for that matter) threat?

Everyone takes bad penalties now and again. Throwing away 5 minutes to prove you're tough for a scrub like Scott. Not likely.

Bruins are tough throughout their whole lineup and are Bruins. Scott is a mercenary that the Sabres had to sign because they are soft all over. Bruins had 38 shots, Miller is a good goalie. I don't think many teams have gone undefeated, even in a 48 game season. Scott did his job, Thornton did his - too bad for Shawn in this case. To suggest Lucic should fight Scott is ridiculous. Not worth it unless Vanek wants to take Scott's spot in the box after the fight. I suggest Sabres fans respond back in a couple weeks when they get their next win.

yeah, that whole last in the division doesnt hold much weight when were only 7 games into a season, even a shortened one... seeing as the sabres are 4 points out of being tied for first, in the division. But i do enjoy chirping boston fans, because when their team is good, they all come out of the woodwork, but then the down turn comes and half the fan base switches sides...

Couple of things:

1. Bruins were due for a loss; they hadn't lost in regulation all year and most of their games had been relatively close. Sabres had lost 4 in a row and were due for a win.

2. The people saying the Sabres "blew out" the B's clearly didn't watch the game. It was tied going into the third and was a one goal game until Buffalo got two insurance goals (including an empty netter) during the last two "desperation time" minutes. This was a good, competitive hockey game.

3. John Scott is 6'8", 270. Shawn Thornton is 6'2", 215. Thornton's job is to take the fights so the B's better players (yes, including Chara and Lucic) don't have to. He did it admirably. Maybe if the Sabres had a player with balls like that last year they wouldn't have peed their pants for the entire league to see when Luc ran Miller.

4. Vanek turns into Wayne Gretzky when he plays the Bruins. Gotta respect the man. Also, Miller was awesome, turned away a flurry of good scoring chances that could've tied it late. I believe the B's actually outshot Buffalo by 10.

5. The Sabres are still last in the division. Don't blow your wads too much over one game.
