This fight was just as unfair as Lucic taking a run at the goalie. The message is clear. Don’t touch the goalie. Period! Next game Lucic should settle the score with Big John.

If I am a Buffalo fan, Im more than a tad bit concerned. Using Scott to address Thornton makes a very negative statement about the toughness of the rest of the Buffalo team. Mont, Bos, Philly etc will see this clearly and be bullying the Buff team into disgrace from here on in.

lmao whats all this Lucic cant fight his own fight? Seemed like Thorton wanted a piece of the guy and lost..ill say this though, the way that guy stands there with his chin wide open, Lucic could easily drop that guy. Only reason he beat Thorton is his height. Lucic or Chara would probably win 7 out of 10…FYI, im a Coyotes fan (i live in AZ), so i really dont care..just an observation

John Scott has scored a goal in the NHL??!! Lindy Ruff is the ultimate toad. He believes Scott winning the fight makes up for all the beatings he caught as a player. Scott is huge and has a huge reach but Thornton can and will beat him. He’s a dead man walking.

The highlights of the night was Vanek for his play and Thornton for his infinate warrior like courage for taking on someone far out of his physical range….I would imagine any team could bring in a player of Scott’s size and hockey inability to simply stand and fight…(shrug) I guess Buffalo has no one other than a Scott that can stand up to a Thornton or Lucic that can actually pass the puck…or do anything else related to hockey.

1. Lucic did fight in the next game the Bruins played against Buffalo last season. Won handily too. 2. Having Chara or Lucic fight in that situation last night has too much downside risk. It’s Thornton’s job to do so in that situation and it is someone’s job to do it on every team in the league. Thornton gets hurt, that’s a problem because he has some skill (and they guys who would come up from Providence can fight but they don’t have as much ability to play the game) but Chara or Lucic gets hurt in a fight like that it could be the season – especially if Chara got hurt. Most nights he’s that important to their defense (not last night though). Not worth it. 3. Buffalo won because it’s top line did a nice job of making the Bruins defense look like a turnstyle by moving the puck and skating so well (not fighting) and Ryan Miller was very good. As for Rask, one of the few times I’ve seen a goalie give up a six pack and didn’t think he played that badly. Other teams will look at what the Sabres did to stretch the B’s out going forward.

goon vs goon. if scott wanted chara or lucic he should have skated on over and asked to go. it’s not like scott challenged someone and they backed off so he was relegated to battling a fourth line guy. they were yapping and handled things. at the very least, thornton gets a pat on the back for heading into fisticuffs with goliath.

in other words, i wish john scott “played” (read as “fought”) for the bruins.

Lucic did answer the bell. Last year, in the subsequent game, when he beat the living crap out of Gaustad. The fact that the Sabres failed so miserably in their attempt at retribution last year is the only reason this game was being hyped as a payback scenario in the first place.

The best part is you guys actually seem surprised that a guy 6’8” 270 beat up a guy 6’3″ 217. I am not crying size; it’s just sort of expected. I don’t think any Boston fan thought Thornton would knock out Scott. Best case Scenario was a draw and no injuries; hopefully it’s nothing that will keep him out of the lineup for too long. The comment about a guy who is 6’8″ beating up a dude get more attention than Vanek’s game. Sad. He beat the Bruins tonight, not Scott.

Right here… Scott got the best of Thornton. the difference is – Thornton is a hockey player, and a good one. Scott is a wasted roster space. The B’s didn’t play well. It’s not worth fighting Scott for anyone else. Why would Lucic, Chara or Mcquaid fight Scott? He’s a giant man, and a good fighter, but a terrible hockey player. There are not many fair swaps. Scott sucks. 270 vs.216lb. THAT is tough. I don’t want Chara or Lucic fighting Scott. risk vs. reward. That was awfully tough of stafford to throw an elbow at the head of hamilton; he should get at least a game.
