That said, the primary focus should not be on scoring goals because you have so much offensive firepower ALREADY. The problem with the Pens is that they are ALL offense and NO defense. Defense wins you hockey games and helps to boost goaltender’s confidence. I’d like to see the Pens keep up the same intensity level and not get lazy with the puck, like how they played when they beat the Flyers in the 1st game of the season. Sometimes, you have to score garbage goals instead of pretty highlight reel ones.

Keep up the good moves though, Shero. Your next move better be in the trade deadline for a SHUTDOWN Defensemen who can provide an answer for annoying people like Giroux. i.e.- Marek Zidlicky, Ladislav Smid, Mark Stuart, Dennis Seidenberg etc. etc. All this talk of the Pens trying to make a move for Setoguchi is pointless because they do not need help scoring goals. They need help in the back.

Once the Pens rachet it down on defense and learn to hold a lead, then they will be in good shape again.

You’d have probably called Dupuis garbage too before last year – this happens to younger forwards a lot when they are asked to come in to the NHL playing a position or a system that they’ve never played – and asked to play only on a spot basis.

Ferrantej – you are just ridiculous man. This was a waiver claim – a no risk move, throw him out there and see if he has any chemistry. The fact of the matter is Shero has been able to make two great trades (Kunitz, and Neal/Nisko), another that looks great (see above), and has been able to build a strong base of prospects that a lot of hockey writers are bullish about (Bennet, Megna, Morrow, Despres, Pouliott, Matta, Bortuzzo, Dumolin), and last but not least went out and got a SOLID back up tender to help Fleury. You are out of control.

This is why I don’t bother commenting very often on here – people read only the part of the post that they want to read and then fill in the rest with whatever backs up their argument, and you “need therapy” if you don’t agree with them.

He hasn’t played 5 years in the NHL, all of his games in the NHL combined don’t even amount to one year, and the years he’s spent in AHL look good to me…so not sure what you’re even saying, really. Doesn’t look like a bust.

I’m just getting tired of these moves picking up garbage players and swapping minor leaguers. Boychuk is 23, and I don’t care who was drafted before or after him, 5 years is more than enough time to prove yourself as a bust. Which he’s done.

And what has Sutter shown this year? Other than giveaways that is. He’s supposedly a good faceoff man but he must be winning them all in the neutral zone because I have yet to see him win an important one in either the offensive or defensive zone.
