He doesn’t have Hartnell to feed pucks so he needs to shoot more. Simmonds, Voracek, Read etc are good players but Giroux needs to understand he has 1000x better chance of creating a goal by shooting than by passing to them.

The only good thing is the whole division and most of the league are all inconsistent. No preseason and just about every team has something slowing them down. I’m a pens fan and I haven’t seen the same team show up 2 games in a row yet. Frustrating to watch!

He’s fine. I hate him, but he’s fine. It’s the same we saw with all the other stars….they came out like fire, then sizzled…they’re people, the adjustment sets in. I wish he wouldn’t be, but he’ll be fine.

It’s a good thing he’s not the face of the NHL because there would be a ton of more pressure. Still, he walks the talk and he’ll rebound. He has the right stuff. Would take him on my team anytime.

While I respect your opinion, I would say that it is apples and oranges when you compare these guys to a rec/beer league team because of the speed involved. With a smaller ice surface everything is naturally more cramped and inevitably it seems some guys are trying to get back to a game where you have to create your own space to make passes and moves.

As it pertains to Malkin however, I agree completely – his struggles this year have not been a product of a smaller ice surface (silly no look passes and letting the puck go through your skates are issues on any sized rink) – I just think someone needs to give him a whack up side the head and tell him to get focused – he’ll turn it on sooner or later.

Giroux had such unbelievable chemistry with Jagr and Hartnell last season and with both of them gone it’s been a struggle. Giroux hasn’t lost his talent he’s simply pressing, trying to do too much, while also attempting to build chemistry with new linemates. I mean he’s played with Simmonds, Read, Briere, Schenn, and Voracek (since Hartnell went down). Lavy has been changing his linemates daily and sometimes even in games. Last season he knew exactly where Hartnell and Jagr were going to be. He knew their tendencies. Right now, with the whole team pressing, it’s been hard to develop any type of rhythm. Plus he’s constantly being swarmed by opposing teams, which is another thing he must adjust to. I believe he and Briere are too creative not to start putting up points. They had great success together in Europe and I have faith both will get on track. I mean think about it, Briere has been all over the place, peppering goalies with quality shots and still hasn’t put points up. Eventually things will start bouncing the Flyers way and the entire team will breakout. Just give em a little time.

I don’t bye that excuse. People are saying it for Malkin as well. I’m no where near and NHL caliber player (obviously) but at the local arena I play at they have 3 different size ice rinks. NHL, international and a outdoor rink in the winter time that is a roller hockey rink in the summer time. The skilled players (not me) are still the best players on all 3 rinks. Sure the larger ice surface give some more space, but it doesn’t cause laziness and bad plays. If going to a smaller ice has an effect on anyone I think it would hurt goalies the most since their angle are now different, but if they stay square to the shot it shouldn’t be a issue either.

Giroux also has a ton of pressure on him. 1st year captain, decimated roster, no bonafied sniper on his line. He needs some help. Hopefully Danny B can help out on that line.

Perhaps an adjustment back to the smaller ice surfaces? It seems to me that a lot of folks who went overseas are actually not tearing up the league quite like I would have expected upon their return.
