Actually they did, the linesmen for tonights game was in town already and came out to help with about 10 minutes left in the game.

That is correct.. they can’t use a local person unless, say, they were in a town that would also have an AHL team…which doesn’t happen really. They don’t schedule back ups as there is not enough staff until playoffs. So they work a 1 and 1 referee system. I have had to work that once and it is no fun I can assure you.

refs can take a beating through the course of a game, you’re telling me they have NOBODY who can act as a replacement in an emergency situation like this?

Not good at all. Everyone gets on the officials when they screw up (and sometimes when they don’t) but you never want to see that happen. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
