They’d never bring him up for 1 game, which is how long McDonald would be suspended, if anything. They’d just play Boulton for a game.

Yeah I think in large part its a function of such a quick start to the season – it’s evened the playing field in a lot of respects in my mind.

I think come the end of the season it will be the usual four (Philly, NY, Pittsburgh, and NJ) battling it out for the top 4 in the division, and possibly also playoff seeding, but I will say I was impressed with the Islanders and definitely Tavares. The arrow is pointed up with this team.

agree- he’s made alot of savvy moves and has done well with the tight budget he has to operate in. Brian Strait, while not a goal scorer, has also been solid night after night playing with Streit. I also like what I’ve see from former 4th overall pick Thomas Hickey, who Garth scooped up on waivers just before the season started.

Our defense is still a little thin but this is the best team the Isle’s have put on the ice in a long time. Visnosky will hopefully make an impact right away.

Obviously though, its still very early in the season and there’s still a long way to go.

Ugh it’s so hard to remain composed with these types of comments. Fleury was second in the NHL, FIRST in the Eastern Conference, last year in wins. Did you forget this, or did you simply not check before you vomitted misinformation?

His save % and GAA last year were almost exactly the same as the year they won the cup. So, yep, I CAN say, and I am supported by statistics in saying, that he very much resembles the same goalie.

He will have bad games and good. So will Vocoun. So will Renne. So will Brodeur. But he is definitely not the problem. Hopefully Pittsburgh fans don’t lose their class and start resembling Flyer fans.

That was almost four years ago. I’m really happy they won the cup in ’09, but that has no bearing on the way he, or the team plays today. You can not tell me that he resembles the same goalie he was in ’08 and ’09.

Wow lots of comments saying this team isn’t put together right…this is still the same team core, including Fleury, that won the cup very recently…that’s 3 years ago. It’s a core many teams would love to have.

However, I’d agree that something’s up – to be honest I think it’s the shortened camp but it also seems like there’s just some really bad decisions and bad plays. Last night there were 11 giveaways, and csilojohnson is correct, they looked beat. Shoulders hunched, defeated. That started the beginning of period 2….either everyone’s out of shape, or out of sync, but at some point it becomes a wake-up call.

Two positives from last night. Despres’ play…some mistakes but also played awesome, and Dustin Jeffrey on the Malkin/Neal line. I like it.

tell me what you think- I think the Pens are still playing like its the first round of the 2012 playoffs- in mindset. they seemed to be zeroed in on the finish when they played Winnipeg and let them take over the game. either someone needs to step it up responsibility-wise to change the mindset of the team, or they need to bring in a level-headed vet, IMO, because Crosby and especially Malkin are having composure issues

Something needs to be done, this team looks horrible and is only getting worse. Stop saying we need to get better and play 60 min. You professional athletes, do what you get payed for. Every year the pens are favored to win the cup they flop and look embarrassing. Do something Shero!

Johnny T is definitely one of the most underrated and least talked about up and coming stars in the league. As a Flyer’s fan when the Isles play us I hope he has a bad game, but every other game I pull for him and love his style. I like the Isles team this year, they look really good so far, early in the season or not. I loved every minute of them smashing the “Stanley Cup Favored On PAPER” Penguins. Nabokov looks pretty solid again this year in net too.

What’s up with the Atlantic division? It looks upside down right now. Flyers, Pens, and Rangers on the bottom, looking up at the Islanders and the Devils. Idk if it will hold up this way. The Devils look real because they did it last season but I don’t know about the Islanders. They have talent and a shortened season opens the door for them but I’ll have to see it to believe it. Seems anything can happen in this wild lockout year.

I’ve been saying it for a month now, and I will continue to say it: The Pens are going nowhere with Fleury and their terrible defense. Crosby, Malkin, and Neil might be able to get the Pens a decent record during the season and a trip to the playoffs but with goaltending like this they won’t get past the first round.

Forget draft picks…lets just look at the acquisitions Garth Snow has made: Mark Streit, Matt Moulson, PA Parenteau, Michael Grabner, Evgenyi Nabokov and now Keith Aucoin. He’s made plenty of great moves that other GMs wish they had made.

Was hoping Isles would get the last goal for a 5-0 finish. Would have made for perfect revenge for the Return of Sid game…but I’ll take this. Isles are playing like a contender now and still no Visnovsky and Bails and Joensuu are out. With JT heating up, Isles may finally break that playoff snide. BTW, if Colin McDonald has to sit for his major against Lovejoy, that may give Whino Nino the chance he’s wanted. Hey, third line NHL minutes are better than nothing, Nino.
