Report: No suspension for Benn after boarding Tyutin

Jan 29, 2013, 4:59 PM EDT

Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn won’t face any additional discipline for his hit on Blue Jackets defenseman Fedor Tyutin in the waning moments of Monday’s 2-1 loss, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.

Benn, who was making his season debut, received a pair of minors — boarding and roughing — following the incident.

The Stars are in Detroit tonight to take on the Wings.

I’m not entirely sure Tyutin didn’t dive to make it look worse than it was, anyways, no suspension seems obvious

Yeah I’m not sure why there was even any talk of a suspension on this one. Certainly a bit of a cross check, and close to boarding… but its no where near suspension worthy.

And for what its worth, the little push from behind really should make Tyutin fly into the boards like that. I mean he gets some air under him…. which probably is a result of helping himself into the boards.

If this was any earlier in the game, I sure would hope Tyutin would’ve gotten called for embellishment on that. Never know with how officiating is going this season though, that game was being called borderline beer league.

That was not that bad. It was a cross check but defiantly no board. No need for a suspension.
