Totally true, but one of those weaknesses has been goaltending. As much as it throws a kink in the new 'status quo' Luongo has been outplaying Schneider (at least for this first week). With Lack out, there really is no justifiable reason to trade Lu now unless we are getting a truly excellent center and at least decent back-up goalie in return. Something along the lines of Fleischmann/Bjugstad and Clemmenson from Florida, but lord know that's not going to happen no matter how many games the Cats lose

I agree with almost everything you just said, but I still won't be surprised if Luongo gets traded. Just seems too much like a done deal and Vancouver's got some major (did I mention major) weakness and holes to fill.

I would be suprised... no shocked, if Luongo is traded this season.

First of all, Schneider has stumbled out of the gate. Hes had a couple solid games, but also a couple pretty bad games as well. If Gillis trade Luongo and then Schneider continues to play on and off hockey...he could find himself without a job. Especially if Luongo goes on to play really well somewhere else. If Schneider pulls it together and strings together 5-10 solid starts, then the odds of a Luongo trade do go up. On the flip side, if Schneider takes a nose dive Luongo isn't going anywhere.

Also, with the short and compressed season teams need to have a solid backup to play a few games. Having two number one quality goalies is a huge bonus in a short season, even if its a bit awkward. Hanging on to Luongo and having him play 15-20 games, as well as being the best backup in the league for the playoffs isn't a bad idea.
