Doughty on Canucks: “They have a swagger about them that we don’t like”

The Vancouver Canucks have developed some heated rivalries with teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, but don’t forget the Los Angeles Kings.

Defenseman Drew Doughty drove that point home while discussing the ill will with John Hoven of Mayor’s Manor.

“Not only is it their personnel that you learn to dislike,” Doughty explained.  “It’s the fact that they keep winning the conference every year. You’re going to hate any good team just because they have that cockiness. But, they have a swagger about them that we don’t like, and we want to show them that we can be the better team. That’s why I think tonight is going to be a big battle.”

It’s already an interesting game with Roberto Luongo likely to start against the team that forced him out of the Canucks’ net in the 2012 playoffs, but now there’s some tantalizing bulletin board material.

The Monday contest takes places in Los Angeles at 10:30 p.m. ET. From the sound of things, it could be worth a few yawns at work.

Well of course they do. Look at all those shiny President’s Cup trophies. :)

So thats what teams in the NHL are trying to win? Probably shouldve reserved that comment for someone who didnt just win the Stanley Cup.

        Good one

    • comeonnowguys - Jan 28, 2013 at 10:19 PM

Clearly could have used a /sarc tag, apparently.

      • hockeyflow33 - Jan 29, 2013 at 2:41 AM

Nah, I think almost all of us got it

  2. esracerx46 - Jan 28, 2013 at 9:58 PM

Swagger…never heard that term used for falling down without the use of force.

    • govtminion - Jan 28, 2013 at 10:52 PM

Maybe he confused it with ‘stagger’? I’ve fallen down after staggering. (Stupid Jagrmeister…)

      • sabatimus - Jan 28, 2013 at 11:06 PM

I knew a guy in college who claimed had his face busted up by a couple of guys on campus…only to come clean a couple days later and say that he got drunk and fell down the stairs :D

      • govtminion - Jan 28, 2013 at 11:16 PM

You knew me in college? How have you been? :D

  3. DTF31 - Jan 28, 2013 at 9:58 PM

I wish that word would die.

    • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Jan 28, 2013 at 10:45 PM

It hasn’t in hundreds of years so don’t hold your breath.

  4. shutyourfivehole - Jan 28, 2013 at 10:13 PM

Swagger? Did you see what San Jose did to them yesterday? And no, it’s not that people don’t like them because they win; it’s because they’re a bunch of punks.

  5. drmcsexy - Jan 28, 2013 at 10:14 PM

Doughty using the word swagger non ironically makes him immediately unlikeable.

  6. jhuck92 - Jan 28, 2013 at 11:04 PM

If I were a Kings fan, I couldn’t care how many Presidents’ trophies the Canucks have. I’m counting how many Cups have been won. That’s LA 1-0 Vancouver.

    • loinstache - Jan 28, 2013 at 11:17 PM

If I’m a Kings fan it probably started 10 months ago

      • cardsandbluesforever - Jan 29, 2013 at 1:30 AM

most kings fans became kings fans about 10 months ago.

      • sjsblitz - Jan 29, 2013 at 2:51 AM

        Like really, I hate living in L.A County. Hate the team and hate the bandwagons. Asked some kid who L.A’s old head coach was before Sutter and he said Gretzky and flipped his snapback backwards t{-_-t}

      • hrudey - Jan 29, 2013 at 9:26 AM

Really! I’ll give you guys credit; there certainly aren’t any of those bandwagon Blues or Sharks fans who only joined after they won their Cup.

      • sjsblitz - Jan 29, 2013 at 3:38 PM

I’d take a genuine fan over someone that hopped on the band wagon after a cup win any day of the week.

    Swagger? Really…?

  8. uscthom78 - Jan 29, 2013 at 12:28 AM

The battle for the title of City of Riots.

  9. jason9696 - Jan 29, 2013 at 1:58 AM

Using the word “swagger” with a team with the Sedins on it doesn’t seem right.

    • jpelle82 - Jan 29, 2013 at 12:00 PM

didnt you see that pic of drake and the sedin sister…that was pretty awkward. couldnt tell who had more swagger

  10. LoyalFan34yrsGoKings - Jan 29, 2013 at 2:38 AM

That’s all I wanted to say

  11. LoyalFan34yrsGoKings - Jan 29, 2013 at 2:39 AM

…oh, make that 35 years now.

  12. ironmike778 - Jan 29, 2013 at 10:55 AM

Every one of you should still be thanking the Bruins for beating that team. How nauseating just to think about the Canucks with the Cup.
