The Dallas Stars have put injured center Derek Roy on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 24.

Roy, 29, hurt his groin while playing in Dallas’ 3-2 ovetime loss to Chicago on Thursday. He assisted on Loui Eriksson‘s shorthanded goal in the first period and logged 19:17 of ice time, but was subsequently held out of Saturday’s loss to St. Louis.

Roy will miss his second straight game on Monday against the Columbus Blue Jackets and likely won’t be available when the Stars take on Detroit on Tuesday.

The impending UFA has been a solid contributor for the Stars this season. Acquired in the offseason from Buffalo in exchange for Steve Ott, Roy has two points in four games and recorded a plus-1 rating.

Soft.. Watched the guy his whole pro-career.. Seemed more interested in clothing and bars than winning. Sorry Dallas but that’s why we were so happy to see him go.

Who was the last player to play for more than 5 years for the Sabres to leave on good terms with fans? Lafontaine? You act as though your criticism is about him as a player, but then go on to talk about his lifestyle, as if the two were the same thing. Drury left Buffalo because he wanted to be a little more anonymous. Roy is lucky, in Dallas, he will be judged by his play rather than petty quarrels with fans that could only occur in Buffalo.

Roy was chased out of Buffalo because he’s a confirmed bad teammate and gutless wonder.

Confirmed by who? WGR? Please find me one quote from any teammate saying that. Bet you can’t.

Ok you want hockey reasons.. He was soft he folded in big situations .. He never did the dirty things needed to win.. He had a few decent seasons and was getting paid like a top first line center but I can assure you he wasn’t playing like one. He was terrible on defense and worse on faceoffs. Check the stat line

    • travishenryskid - Jan 29, 2013 at 9:59 AM

Roy was over 50% on faceoffs, was a top pker, and often matched up against other teams top lines. He was also almost always a + in +/-. You’re bias gets in the way of facts. Now the top 2 centers are below 40% on faceoff, have never pked or played against top competition. Real upgrade. It’s shameful how Buffalo drives people out. Who’s next? I already know, the whip has started to be transfered to Myers. Have fun Tyler.

And as for leaving on good terms.. Look up Dave Andrechuck.. Dale Hauerchuck.. Mogilny .. Marty Biron.. The list is endless.. Most ex-Buffalo players stay here after retirement . The only reason Roy’s public life is mentioned is because Hockey wasn’t his priority and he showed it in his play

So basically, other than a back up goalie, nobody in the past 15 years. Good job, Buffalo. Really making us proud.

  4. bufffalojoe - Jan 29, 2013 at 8:18 AM

Marty Biron practiced with the team during the lockout, Rob Ray went on to play with a rival and is now the color commentator for the buffalo sabres, also a alumni member and resides in buffalo… A lot of players leave here on good terms, Jay McKee and Andrew Peters coachedthe sabres during the lockout. Derek Roy was cancer of the team after his comments made last year.

Ha! What comments? Misinformation that you guys spew is hilarious.

  5. kgun80 - Jan 29, 2013 at 11:22 AM

Roy was 19th in faceoffs last year.. Just over 50%.. And as for plus minus he only finished on the plus side2 times in 6 years.. How’s that for facts.. He also only had 44 points in 80 games last year so before you start quoting stats you should probably look them up first.. My breaks over now..back to work find out if your mom will let you have more computer time after school.. Then you can look up the stats

    • travishenryskid - Jan 29, 2013 at 12:08 PM

19th out of 120+ players. Yep, he sucked! This is why so many Buffalo fans are miserable. You take last year as evidence as to why he was a pansy, yet refuse to acknowledge that he played through a serious injury all year! Softest player I’ve ever seen!

From the last lockout until last season, Roy averaged .86666 points per game, or 71 points over 82 games. He was a +54. Those are elite numbers. Yet Buffalo fans couldn’t get over the fact he wears pink shirts downtown, so he must be terrible at hockey and a terrible person to boot. It makes the city look so 2nd rate. There is an inferiority complex in that city, and you bring it on yourselves.

Hahaha.. You didn’t read the stats right he had 54 pim… Penalty minutes.. He was minus 7 Last year!!Haha follow the columns down!! Haha

    • travishenryskid - Jan 29, 2013 at 12:50 PM

      Smh….

      05-06: +1
      06-07: +37
      07-08: +13
      08-09: -5
      09-10: +9
      10-11: -1

      Total: +54

  7. kgun80 - Jan 29, 2013 at 12:38 PM

And yes being 19th is bad!!! When you are a the number 1 center making a top 10 paycheck!! 19 puts him in the bottom half of all faceoff men. Get over it he’s gone!!

  8. kgun80 - Jan 29, 2013 at 12:56 PM

He’s plus 40 career!!! Stop cherry picking stats!! Lol

    • travishenryskid - Jan 29, 2013 at 1:08 PM

It’s called eliminating statistical outliers, not cherry picking. There is no reason to include a rookie season where he played half of the games, and a career worst season in which it was later determined he was playing through a major injury for the entirety of it.

  9. kgun80 - Jan 29, 2013 at 1:03 PM

Plus 40 career… Face the facts!! He was not and is not a number 1 center… Keep cherry picking your stats that’s fine! Keep thinking we didn’t want the guy because of anything besides hockey!! I don’t care if he wore a big bird costume out at night!! He was a subpar number 1 center!!

  10. kgun80 - Jan 29, 2013 at 1:11 PM

    You mean cherry picking

  11. kgun80 - Jan 29, 2013 at 1:12 PM

    Which is cherry picking
