This celebration is only for Game Winners in Playoff games. Period.

He is welcome to keep it up though, players will be just sure to target him more and punish him for it in the future.

Hockey is a game where instant karma can and will get you, if he keeps it up he will get jumped and have runs taken at him.

Actually I’m fine with the slide, and don’t think it’s that big a deal. I did watch some footage a while ago from Edmonton’s prospect camp – he did the same slide after his goal in camp in front of the fans. I think he genuinely likes the spotlight and to entertain the fans. There are worse things.

To me, big deal, the guy slid. The other teams are free to check him (cleanly) if he irritates them.

We’re still on this? Look, if the league wants to fine him (I have no idea why), they can go ahead and do so. But NHL hockey is back after a 4-month wait and people are already fired up about a goal celebration? Not even a dirty hit or a blown call, but a goal celebration. It makes me thankful hockey is back when I see a big goal and a better celebration. I said it before, I think the game needs more of this. And what did you see in the #hockeyisback video? Orr soaring, Messier jumping up and down, and Ovi jumping into the boards. It’s Nail’s first big goal of his young career. Let it be.

Way too over the top for a rookie. If Ovie did something like that, I would be okay with it – Ovie is an established, proven star. However, Yakupov hasn’t done anything in the NHL yet & he should temper his excitement until he reaches star status.

I had the same thought, I like it when hockey players celebrate, but here he made the goal about himself and not about the team. So when I saw this I was a little surprised. But whatever, he’s young.

P.S. remember when Overchkin scored fifty and put his stick on the ground like it was on fire, that was a little bit more insulting.

It’s overkill for me, not because of the slide itself but because when your teammates are about to mob you in celebration and then you make a concerted effort to ditch them so you can do your own thing…….that’s what I have a problem with. But whatever.

I don’t have a problem with it. He scored a big goal and got really excited, didn’t hold up the game excessively and most importantly didn’t taunt and/or show up the Kings. He shouldn’t make a habit of stuff like this, but for now let the kid enjoy it and you can be sure the next time the Kings see him they’ll work extra hard to keep him off the score sheet.
