Going back to juniors: Wild’s Dumba, Flyers’ Laughton

It’s decision time for the junior-eligible players getting work in the NHL and two of them are headed back to the CHL today.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that forward Scott Laughton is headed back to the OHL’s Oshawa Generals after playing in all five of the team’s games. Had he played against Tampa Bay tonight he would’ve played the full season in Philadelphia and burned the first year of his entry-level contract.

With Danny Briere back in action and Zac Rinaldo likely returning this week and Tye McGinn playing well, it didn’t make sense to keep Laughton around to play minimal time.

The Minnesota Wild followed suit in doing the same for defenseman Matthew Dumba as they sent him back to the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels. With the Wild getting rookie Jonas Brodin as well as Marco Scandella back from injuries, their defensive depth was more than sufficient.

Dumba did impress Wild brass with his ability to adapt quickly, but burning the first year of his contract wouldn’t have made much sense. We will miss our new favorite last name/number combination. Maybe Dumba-55 will be back next season.

You love having pictures with Devils in them but you hate talking about the Devils…

I heard that Leighton was going back down because he plays too clean – plays a good, clean game and they didn’t like it.

thats the stupidest thing ive heard leighton hasnt even played 1 second this season

except for the 60 mins last night where leighton got lit up. still dont see why they send laughton down. briere comes back right when hartnell goes down so that spot is filled. knuble signed doesnt mean he is worth it or even plays, rinaldo sucks and gets hurt. i figured laughton to be better than freakin jody shelley.

Well that was a dumb comment. Where have you been hiding thru pits pitiful losses?

Too bad to see Laughton go. He was one of their best players through the 3 game losing streak, but in the two wins he’s been used much less so it’s understandable. I think he showed he has a bright future, however, and is already proving wrong all the doubters who thought the Flyers reached. Looking like another gem in 20’s by the front office. Tye McGinn is looking like a 4th round steal as well. And Hockeywithdrawal, you’re the biggest troll on PHT.

I’m kind of surprised they sent him down. I understand why but he was playing well. Being a Pens fan I’m not sorry to see him go. The kid has talent and is going to be really good in the future.
