Agreed, and I don’t even like the Devils. But guess what? They won. They deserve the majority of the coverage.

I get that the Capitals starting with 4 straight losses IS a story, but it shouldn’t be the main story. If I want to hear more about the team that lost than the team that won, I’ll turn on ESPN’s 24/7 Lakers coverage.

Can probably lay a little at Holtby’s feet…but Neuvy looks solid.

If indeed the Caps do continue to suck for the remainder of the season….can at least look forward to winning the lottery and adding Seth Jones to the crop of Kuznetsov, Wilson, Forsberg and Grubauer.

hate to say I told you so caps fans. Dale Hunter had them all collasping around the net and blocking shots because he knew they weren’t very good and that was there only chance at winning. Bruins are 1st in the east, caps are last. Your goalie doesn’t look so good now that some shots are actually getting through. I’d be shocked if they made the playoffs. Suckers.

Another great win!

The score is a bit misleading, Neuvirth played really really well and Marty had a shutout up until the Devils got called for 5 or 6 penalties in the span of 5 minutes.

What is up with Ovechkin? That guy was a complete non-factor on the ice – man, how the great have fallen.

No Parise? No problem! This is a hockey TEAM.

PS. Congrats to Brian Gionta’s little brother on his first goal of the season!

Man I miss the lockout after watching them they look like a peewee team out there. Getting rid of Semin was a big mistake they gave up a goal scorer now have no second line. Half the team is too small and get knocked off the puck. And why is Schultz still in the NHL ?

I don’t know about conference champions, but they’re absolutely a stealth hit of a team. Everyone figured Parise leaving would screw them, but he’s just one top-line forward – a painful loss, but not a team-breaking one. They’re still a powerhouse, great on D, on the attack and somehow, still in net. I swear to God, Brodeur ages in Selanne years.

I’ve been extremely impressed with the Devils. I mean they always give the Flyers problems but now they’re doing it to everyone. Solid D, timely scoring, and, of course, Brodeur. It’s amazing that the team that won the conference last year could be a sleeper, but Devils the sleeper pick of the East?

Watching them a couple of times so far (tonight and the Winnipeg game), the Caps just look sloppy. They’re getting beat defensively- the result is a lot of odd man rushes, lazy penalties, and missed coverage on key people (Kovalchuk made it look easy in OT). Their goaltending looks decent actually, but outside of that they just look like a mess. Very disappointing so far.

Can’t lay this at Holtby or Neuvy’s feet. People need to temper their expectations a lot. No way was this team going to be good early having no training camp and having to learn a new system. It took the Bears a couple months to get this system down (and their still seems to be some issues but they’re playing way better).

Don’t be surprised if this is a lost season. Oates had absolutely no time to get the players used to the new system on top of the fact that a bunch of these guys are playing their way into game shape. If anything, this shortened season will be time for Oates to implement his system, work the kinks out of it and make tweaks as needed (which is what Mark French has been doing in Hershey since Oates left).
